Heard on the radio this morning that the federal minimum wage increase the house passed affects every state and territory except American Somoa. The largest employer on American Somoa is StarKist tuna. Their home office is in Nancy Pelosi's district. How could she have over looked this injustice on the poor people of American Somoa. Or was she taking care of big business in her backyard?

Thanks for the info re Dept of Labor.
It is an example of the arbitrariness of central planning. Here we have collectivist "planners" deciding wages, without any approval whatsoever from Congress, in whom all legislative power is supposed to reside. If centralized wage control is constitutional in American Samoa or the Mariannas, why not elsewhere such as the states?
My apologies to FA Hayek.

The reason the Democrats give is that Samoa's economy is too weak to handle the wage increase. There are plenty of states who have weak economies right now, LA, for example. Why aren't they exempt?
No Starkist tuna for me until Pelosi explains why a worker in American Samoa can't earn a "living wage".
