I was 41 years old. I'd been engaged a couple of times, but never married. I had just about given up, and was concentrating on career and Church.
I happened to join this online organization called Free Republic. It was the summer of 2000. I became politically active, and eventually started talking to another Freeper from three very large states away. It was all Freepmail at first.
She had a Freeper handle that wouldn't give away her gender. And I really couldn't tell whether she was male or female by the way she was writing. We were both very Republican. Dedicated to taking the White House back -- and we thought the same way about a lot of things, it was just uncanny. Both of us seemed to know what the other was going to say.
he longer we talked, the more we discovered we had a lot in common. Both of us were the second of three kids for example. Both of us like the early days of hard rock, and the "muscle cars" of the 1970s. But both of us are really into reading books.
I don't even remember how it came up, but she turned out to be an 18-year-old Freeperette. I asked for a picture and she turned out to be SUPER HOT. Cheerleader and soccer goalie in high school.
She had graduated and was already signed up for college close to me. Our first date was at the Barnes & Noble bookstore -- How Romantic!!! We worked together on the campaign, we were crossing our fingers for five weeks during the recounts and Supreme Court deliberations, and we were married on the last day of the Clinton Administration.
Since we agree about almost everything, particularly how to spend money (and how much to spend), there's hardly ever a disagreement. May/December romance, call it what you want, but it's running like a Swiss watch. Because I was old, I wasn't an irresponsible, zit-faced kid getting in trouble: I was well-settled in a prosperous career, and I had a house that was all paid for. Because she was young, she was young and hot: brilliant and full of energy, with a wicked sense of humor.
We are about to celebrate our 6th anniversary.
WTG, FReeper and FReeperette!! Congratulations.
