~Love Stories~ How did you meet the love of your life?

At Last My Love Has Come Along Dedicated to To My Dear Husband, Peter by Anonymous My husband is currently serving in Iraq, and I dedicate our love story to all the soldiers whose love crosses the world this Valentine's Day. At the end of my first date with a man named Peter, I heard a perfect stranger telling him "he had better marry that girl".

The story goes like this.... I was asked out on during summer break by a man with whom I attended college. I was a nervous woman, but we had a fabulous time together in downtown Houston, Texas. Our night ranged from a Chinese restaurant for dinner, to St. Petes Dancing Marlin for strawberry cheesecake, until we arrived at a jazz cafe named the Red Cat Lounge. Peter had been a perfect gentleman all night, and I let him know I was ready to leave the jazz cafe as the night wore on. He kept stalling and saying that we would leave soon. After our agreed upon thirty minutes, I stood up and told Peter "Let's go". Well, that's when the lead singer of the band looked at me and said "You can't leave yet". At that moment, the lead singer looked at me and said "This is for the woman with the beautiful green eyes" and began playing the song "At Last" by Etta James.

Peter knew that was my favorite song and had apparently secretly requested it be played for me. He had never heard the song before, and did not even know it was a love song until he heard the chorus that night. "At Last My Love Has Come Along, My Lonely Days Are Over, and Life is Like a Song" is the chorus, and little did we both know that night the song actually had come true in the beginning of our love relationship. At the end of the song, the lead singer turned to Peter and said "you better marry that girl".

How pleased would that perfect stranger be to know that "At Last" was the first song that Peter and I danced to as a newlywed couple exactly two years later on May 29, 2005. Since we have married, Peter and I have longed to visit Hawaii to celebrate our love and our marriage. The thought of lying on the beach at night, sipping margaritas while lying in a hammock, while feeling the ocean breeze on our faces is a dream. To walk along the beach at night, explore the lushness and the vegetation, and to experience the mystery of the island would be a priceless experience.

I am planning on surprising my husband with a trip to Hawaii when he returns from his tour in Iraq. After being apart, I can't even envision the joy it would bring to be together in a fantasy land "at last".

I used to work as a probation officer in western Washington State. I had one difficult parolee who kept reoffending. I was forever convincing him to go to the eastern side of the state—out of my jurisdiction. Once there, he'd reoffend and another parole officer would get him to move back west! Finally, this other officer and I decided to meet to discuss the problem. "This other officer" is now my wife. We didn't invite the probationer to the wedding. —Bill O'Connor, Anchorage, Alaska

Late one night I heard someone banging around in the hallway outside my apartment door. It was so loud, I finally got up to investigate. When I opened my door, a man fell into my kitchen—passed-out drunk. I tried to shove him back into the hall, but he was too heavy. Instead, I left him on the floor, went to my bedroom, pushed the dresser in front of my door, and went back to sleep. Not long after, I married the lug.

Fantastic thread fatima :)
I'm enjoying reading all of the love stories on the thread.

I'm very blessed to be married to my husband. I'm still in love, just like I was so many years ago. Maybe even more :)

I met my wife in 1989. She was a concert pianist from New Zealand, studying at the University of Washington. She popped across the border to Vancouver, Canada. I met her, and offered to show her the town... which I did. Spent a wonderful afternoon and early evening.

She went back to Washington, we corresponded informally and casually.

I was working for an Australian company at the time (Elders IXL) and had a number of Australian friends as a result. Six weeks holiday banked up: the company wanted me to spend it as they were accruing it year-on-year. So I decided on a trip to Australia, to see my mates over there.

My open ticket allowed for one stopover: I decided to spend an afternoon in New Zealand, to see this Concert Pianist, say hello, have a coffee and then on to six weeks in OZ.

Didn't work out that way at all! I spent six weeks in New Zealand, and asked her to marry me three days into my vacation! Talk about a whirl-wind romance! We spent a marvellous six weeks -- a time I'll never forget.

We married in 1991 in Vancouver. In 1994 she wanted to go home to New Zealand, and funnily enough I wanted to go with her: and here I am still. Sixteen happy years into marriage, two wonderful kids, and a wonderful woman who is my wife. I love her fiercely, and am a jealous husband. (She's pretty jealous, too!)

Every day, every year, she gets prettier and prettier, and I become more and more infatuated, and I thank God for every breath we breathe together.

I have never been tempted to look astray: there is no other for me, never can be. If and when we are parted, I hope I go first. If not, nobody will replace her: I'll go alone.

Thanks for the kind wishes.

You're more than welcome.

[snip] I have no problems with or qualms about public speaking or breaking the ice.

Ahh... that's great. part of the reason I joined Toastmasters was because I was very shy, especially in front of groups.

Heck I even enjoy hanging out with friends and doing some karaoke singing on a regular basis {no, I really don't actively look in bars for a mate}!

I never got up the nerve to sing at open mike/karaoke opportunities, even though I used to take singing lessons and had a pretty good voice at one time. Good for you!

But I live in Portland Oregon - an epicenter of Left Coast Liberalism, as well as a bastion of lesbianism.

I knew about the liberalism, didn't know about the lesbianism.

After "disqualifying" for traits of: untreated psychosis, divorcees with 2 kids or more, substance abuse, multiple garish piercings and/or tattoos, political Uber-liberalism/Radical leftism, lack of interest in having children, or total lack of physical fitness/personal hygiene {vastly overweight - 20%+ and 'dumpster chic' antifashion are standard here...}

I've been in the vicinity of folks with some of those traits... mostly not to my taste either (well, especially the piercings, tattoos, hygiene, leftism, and scads of out-of-wedlock kids I've seen among some of the younger folks I've met). Also don't like the dumpster chic myself... One acquaintance from Toastmaster days is in her 60s and still dresses like a hippie, complete with Birkenstocks and baggy clothes (she's not overweight, though).

Well, I see why you feel that you have to wait for someone special to show up in your life. However, I will say again that I wish you well, and I hope you don't have to wait too much longer.

WELCOME TO

Good morning, Everyone. Good morning

DC Metroland weather report ~ Today...Sunny. Highs in the mid 40s. Light winds becoming south winds 10 to 15 mph. ~ Tonight...Mostly clear in the evening...Then becoming mostly cloudy. Lows in the mid 30s. Southwest winds 5 to 10 mph.

Thank you, fatima, for preparing the Canteen for today's activities. Love of my life? Hmmmmm......this is difficult for me. But, I guess I'll tell you that I met my current husband (#2) through a blind date. He worked with my best friend. She introduced us. We just celebrated 18 years in October. God bless him. He is so tolerant of my imperfections.

Oh boy....oh boy.....it's almost Friday. And, believe it or not, I have a three day weekend coming. My, my....what to do with that FREE time.

Time for me to make my rounds. I want to read some of the pings before starting to do what I'm paid to do.

But, you stay right where you are. Don't touch that dial. Don't change that channel. Put down that remote. Don't leave the room. Keep your eyes on your monitor. Cause...............I'll be bock!

And, for the rest of you………..

Now remember, the Canteen is

So, come on in and sit for a while. There's always plenty of coffee, pancakes, conversation, silliness, and plain old BS

REMEMBER THEM

DEFENDERS OF FREEDOM

(Hey, cutie)

FR CANTEEN MISSION STATEMENT

Showing support and boosting the morale of our military and

our allied military and the family members of the above.

Honoring those who have served before.
