This should have some supporting evidence in regions which traditionally have spicy foods.

Dumb Question #1

Do people with high capsaicin intake in their diet (Mexico, for example) have lower rates of cancer? This information is likely to be available.

I'd like to see this reconciled against India having some of the highest cancer rates in the world (See http://www.bmj.com/cgi/content/full/330/7485/215-c ) but I may be ignorant on what percentage of the Indian population eat foods with a lot of chillies. Maybe it's a myth that all Indians eat hot curries.

If this is true, it's awesome news.

However, since this is a naturally grown substance and not something that Glaxxo-Smithkline or Pfizer conjured up in their labs, you can be sure that the US Pharmaceuticals will pressure the FDA to discredit any of this research and bury it as just another urban legend.

I regularly eat spicy foods, way-too-hot chicken wings and nuclear salsa. Although my diet is not always ideal, my 50-year-old checkup came out golden.

Is capsaicin the key? I dunno, I just like the buzz. Gimme another Harpoon IPA with those warheads.

Good post. What about esophageal cancer, due to years and years of pronounced GERD? I'm thinking spicy food is not good for people with GERD.

Although I indulge in Mexican food all the time. I love it and I'm too young to not eat whatever. Plus, I exercise vigorously 4-5 times a week. :O)
