FReeper Canteen ~ It's A Baby Shower ~ 09 January 07
The Canteen Crew | Serving The Best Troops In The World

Welcome To The Canteen's Online Baby Shower
for all our Grandmothers-To-Be!
Luv W -- her son David, an active duty member of the US Air Force, and his wife are expecting baby #1

Lisa Malia - 2nd grandbaby, due in August

Mountain Flower - grandbaby due in July

Laurenmarlowe - grandbaby is due at the end of January

I like to walk with grandma,
Her steps are short like mine.
She doesn't say "Now hurry up",
She always takes her time.

I like to walk with grandma,
Her eyes see things like mine do -
Wee pebbles bright, a funny cloud,
Half hidden drops of dew.

Most people have to hurry,
They don't stop and see
I'm glad that God made Grandma.
Unrushed, and young like me.

~Poem by Thena Smith~

Good morning, Everyone. Good morning

Thank you, Star and Ma, for preparing the Canteen for today’s activities.

First, welcome to the Grandparents club ~ Lauren, Luvy, Lisa, and Flower! If you think you'll be excited by the birth of the grandchild, you just wait! I think one of the most exciting events is the first time you hear the child say Grandma or Grandpa!

Remember that your grandchildren will grow up learning from you what a Grandmother is suppose to be like. Then again, you must decide what kind of Grandma you'll be. I say be a HIP GRANDMA

DC Metro weather ~ Today ~ Sunny and cold. ~ Tonight ~ Dark and cold!

Gotta go see what I can bring to the shower. And, time for me to make my rounds. But, you stay right where you are. Don't touch that dial. Don't change that channel. Put down that remote. Don't leave the room. Keep your eyes on your monitor. Cause...............I'll be bock!

Now remember, the Canteen is

So, come on in and sit for a while. There's always plenty of coffee, pancakes, conversation, silliness, and plain old BS

REMEMBER THEM

our allied military and the family members of the above.

How about cake for the party? I've got this recipe:

Chocolate-Cherry Angel Cake

Heavenly chocolate angel food is topped with a sweet cherry-almond sauce for a divine (low-calorie!) dessert.

Prep Time:15 min
Start to Finish:3 hr
Makes:12 servings

1 package Betty Crocker® 1-step white angel food cake mix
2 tablespoons baking cocoa
1 can (16 1/2 ounces) pitted dark sweet cherries in heavy syrup, undrained
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 container (8 ounces) frozen whipped topping, thawed
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1/3 cup sliced almonds, toasted

1. Heat oven to 350ºF. Make cake mix as directed on package for angel food (tube) pan -- except stir cocoa into cake mix (dry). Bake 37 to 47 minutes or until top is dark golden brown and cracks feel very dry and not sticky. Cool completely, about 2 hours, as directed on package.
2. Mix cherries and cornstarch in 2-quart saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens and boils. Boil and stir 1 minute. Cool completely.
3. Mix whipped topping and almond extract; spoon onto slices of cake. Top with cherry mixture. Sprinkle with almonds.
