Aside from the stand of trees vs. tree stand semantics, the suspect had a bullet wound himself. anybody know more about this story?

I hear that, Petruchio.
Not much is being said around here yet, Kryp. Last time, it all started with a manhunt so a lot of information busted out in a hurry. I'm sure the authorities will try to keep a lid on things for awhile until they have a clearer understanding of what happened.

Exactly right. The press is just being true to form; failing to give relevant details.

Not "most of upstate New York", "part of upstate New York". But alas, they fought for the United Kingdom in the Revolution so they LOST their best stuff. Their reserves are mostly in Canada these days and are protected by the same Treaty of Paris that granted the American colonies their independence and capacity as independent states.
Now the Oneida fought for the United States of America and were promised all sorts of stuff by George Washington, Congress and others.
Eventually the state of New York managed to steal their land and kick them out.
A few years ago the Oneida won a battle in the Supreme Court to have their rights restored. New York was then given the opportunity to provide land to the Oneida in the requisite quantity.
This is currently under way.
At the same time the Oneida were given the opportunity to open a casino so they could raise the money from among the now native New Yorkers to purchase all that land for the Oneida orphans and widows.
You were, of course, thinking of the entire Iriquoian Confederation when you said "Mohawk".

Additional details. SF Gate is the one with their panties in a wad, playing on the horrors of an actual massacre. Wisconsin is not "on edge" over this. It wouldn't have even made the papers were it not for the original Vang murder spree.

To hell with diversity, the Hmong are out of place, it's time to go back home. And they have fared far better here than white Wisconsins would have in southeast Asia. Think of all the social benefits and welfare the Hmong have received.... Better yet we could shoot them. Serves them right for fighting at our side in Southeast Asia

Threads on the Vang incident. The liklihood that Chai Vang acted in self-defense is zero.
And there very well may be a "cultural" misunderstanding aspect to this latest case as well. Things such as private property, game limits, hunting seasons, etc.
He was hunting on public land. In all liklihood there's a victim and a murderer.

Unless it was misdemeanor conviction, which seems highly unlikely, this guy had no business out in the words with a gun, since he's prohibited by federal law from having one.Per another thread,Nichols was convicted in Marinette County of several felony burglary charges in 1996. Penalties for federal and state firearms violations and poaching can be added to his life sentence.

This is a hunting technique analogous to shooting doves on telephone lines.Even better some guys plant a bunch of corn and throw out apples by their tree stands. The deer don't just wander by, they come to eat. The hunters then shoot them while they're eating.
Talk about lazy hunters - sitting in adult tree houses.

Aside from the stand of trees vs. tree stand semantics, the suspect had a bullet wound himself. anybody know more about this story? See the link to threads in post 74, there were dozens on FR, and a Vang ping list for awhile.
He had no bullet wound, most of the hunters he killed were unarmed. Vang, who had skipped on a tresspassing charge in Green county, was tresspassing on the victims land, after being thrown off as a tresspasser the year before. Words ensued, and Vang opened fire.

Again, there are two Vangs; not all the articles in the search list in your link are about this Vang (the one recently shot and killed, and not accused or killing other people).

Suppose so....
the label of your link is still "Vang incident," rather than the more accurate "Vangs incidents."
