The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society ship Farley Mowat is now officially a pirate vessel.
We are at sea without a flag, in search of illegal whaling operations in hostile and remote waters at the bottom of the world.
The Farley Mowat cleared Australian Customs in Hobart, Tasmania on December 29, 2006 only hours before the nation of Belize struck our flag.
The Belize registry had only been issued ten days before on December 19, 2006
The Belize registry was sought after Britain pulled the registry in early December the same day it was issued.
In October, the Farley Mowat, registered under the Canadian flag since April 2002, had the registry suspended by Canada.
This is all apparently part of a strategy by Japan to use its economic muscle to lean on any nation that allows us to be registered under their flag.
According to a credible legal source in Melbourne, the Farley Mowat as an unregistered pirate vessel may be interdicted at will by any naval vessel of any government, its crew arrested, and the ship sunk.

I suspect $50 to somebody in Chad will get them a nice registration.

If they are not flying a flag, does that mean that we can board them, steal their stuff, and have our way with their women (not that we'd want to - at least not before drinking a barrel of rum)?

Perfect. They can claim no protection under any nation's maritime laws. Anyone with a fast boat and a couple of shotguns could do the world a big favor ...

US Constitution Article I Section 8
(The Congress shall have the power:) To define and punish Piracies and Felonies committed on the high Seas, and Offenses against the Law of Nations;
To declare War, grant Letters or Marque and Reprisal, and make Rules concerning Captures on Land and Water;
I admire the concise, careful wording of our governing document. Too bad the courts and rats have trashed it.

Ship stopped. Crew arrested. Ship sunk. Sounds like Plan. The eco-terrorists will be out of business, post haste. I like a self-solving problem. Isn't piracy a hanging crime?

Just checking...
Does this mean that if they are sunk at sea --- accidentally, of course --- they have no recourse? No one to complain to? No one who cares?
Just wondering.
