Did Hizbullah have a Syrian tank?
Jerusalem Post ^ | 1/7/7 | YAAKOV KATZ

During the Lebanon war last summer, the IDF encountered a Hizbullah guerrilla force armed head-to-toe with advanced weaponry supplied by Syria and Iran.

At one point during the war, the IDF even opened up its warehouses to show the weapons it had captured. There were missile launchers with Syrian markings and antitank missiles supplied by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards.

But according to Maj. Yigal Averson, deputy commander of a battalion of Armored Brigade 7, he also encountered a Syrian tank being used by Hizbullah.

Averson, who led his troops during the 33-day war inside Lebanon, told The Jerusalem Post this week that one of his greatest disappointments was that he did not blow up that tank.

"During the war, we reached the village of Kila and saw a Syrian tank being used by Hizbullah," he recalled. He expressed his frustration that he did not order his soldiers, trained explosives experts, to destroy it.

According to Averson, the tank was made in Syria and was incapable of firing shells. He said it was able to move around and was used by Hizbullah for storage and as a means of cover and protection.

Northern Command sources said they were surprised by Averson's description of a Hizbullah tank. They said they had never heard of armored vehicles being in Hizbullah's hands.

Let's just send Kerry over to talk to Syria. That should fix the problem.

Even more, it would be advantageous for Israel to get all Hezbollahs into obsolete Syrian tanks and to abandon guerrilla tactics.

Yep, I have the same frustration....but at Maj. Gen Averson. Its the enemy...its a tank - your at war - its your duty to destroy it!!

Sounds to me like Olmert was micro-managing the battle and didn't want to risk "upsetting" the Syrians by blowing up their property - that was being used against Israel!! HuH?

I fear that too much of this PC warfighting shit is happening in Iraq also

Strategically speaking, they are nothing without Iran and Russia backing them.

It would fix it.

They would be too busy scratching their heads while saying "what the fu##" to have time to support Hizbullah.

"...Sounds to me like Olmert was micro-managing the battle..."

It was a surprise when Olmert and Israel halted their drive into Lebanon last fall. Israel clearly had the upper hand on Hizbollah, and was killing them in quantity.

Pulling-back and waiting for the UN to send French troops in made no sense at all, in spite of what the MSM had to say afterwards! Israels' kill-ratio was over 12:1, and they had over-run most of the border tunnels and entrenchments of the Hizbolowogs.

Since satellite imagery indicates that the wogs just rebuilt their blowed-up fortifications in the same places, maybe the foray into Lebanon by Israel was for reconnaissance purposes.

Just a thought before Wednesdays Presidential speech. Stay well ............ FRegards

"Strategically speaking, they are nothing without Iran and Russia backing them."

How true. Once Iran's despotic rulers are removed the Assad clan will be left rather alone.
