Thomas Jefferson probably also owned a copy of Plato's Republic...would it make THAT book suitable for a swearing-in, as well?

This might belong in blogs, but it's still a worthy read.

You can't read this story with out realizing pretty quick that islam can't be anything other than a blasphemous cult straight from Hell.

Ellison, who was born in Detroit and converted to Islam while in college,

I don't understand how anyone, born in America, with a college education - would want to convert to Islam. What does it offer? The only thing I get out of it is hate & destruction, if someone can enlighten me to anything else, I'd like to hear it.

I wonder if the "honorable" representative even knows the history of Jefferson and the Barbary pirates. Probably not but it won't matter because no one in the media will embarrass him by pointing out that Jefferson used that Koran for insight into how to defeat the Islamic enemy.

RE Islam: "all nations who should not have acknowledged their authority were sinners, that it was their right and duty to make war upon them wherever they could be found"

That works for me as a first strike.

And yet some artful lackey would have us think that Jefferson upheld Islam and provided his Koran for the oath-taking.

I once owned a book by Lenny Bruce. Maybe they can use that next time. It would be a REAL joke.

When I first heard of Ellison using Jefferson's copy, I knew that maroon didn't know his US history.

Good Post!
Technical point, he is using a translation of the Koran(spellings according to preference). The true Koran is, has been, and will continue to be in Arabic.
So much for Muslim wannabes.

Ellison To Use Quran Suggested By Radical Muslim Group

Ellison claims he got the idea of using a Quran owned by Thomas Jefferson for his swearing in from an anonymous person.

In fact the idea for the PR stunt was suggested to him by the Muslim American Society, a radical group founded by the Muslim Brotherhood. The MAS want to impose Sharia law on the United States...

SIR WINSTON CHURCHILL ON ISLAM

"How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy - which! is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog - there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. The effects are apparent in many countries. Improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live.

A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement; the next of its dignity and sanctity . The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property, either as a child, a wife, or a concubine, must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men.

Individual Moslems may show splendid qualities, but the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists i! n the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step; and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science - the science against which it had vainly struggled - the civilization of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilization of ancient Rome."

Sir Winston Churchill

Great history lesson. Assuming its all factual (and it all makes sense to me) what I can't understand is why we sit here in FReeper land reading this. Why wasn't our side educating the people as to why Jefferson had this Quran? Cowardice - that's the reason - plain and simple.

This ties in to an earlier RevWar/Colonial History/General Washington List ping out, Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin, John Adams and James Madison: Young America’s Fight with Islamism, almost a Paul Harvey ending, eh?

If Ellison lurked, he might have a different read on Jefferson. Was Ellison trying to poke us in the eye for the Barbary Wars or did he outfox himself?

The Quran Ellison used was no ordinary book. It once belonged to Thomas Jefferson. . .[who] . . . needed to know everything possible about Muslims because he was about to advocate war against the Islamic "Barbary" states of Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Tripoli [to respond to their declaration of war against us and to halt their piracy and killing and enslavement of U.S. citizens].

And a big THANK YOU to the new Congressman for reminding us Muslim extremists have done it to us before! Now if someone would just tell his fellow Rats.

It would have been just as effective if Ellison had simply crossed his fingers.

We all know he has no intention of honoring his "oath." Using that book proves it. It gives him permission to lie to us.

But he won't be the first politician to do that.

You cannot trust; you cannot treat with; and you cannot afford to empower someone to whom an oath means nothing. He is by definition a man without honor.
