You'd think that Alaskans know how to drive in snow and ice, and they do. It is these cheechakos who never even saw a live snowflake before and just got to Alaska this summer. Probably 1/3 the population.

What's a cheechako, RW? Is that a local term in Alaska?

How many of that 33% do you think will make it until next fall?

1/3 of Alaskan's population is new comers since last summer?
A real cheechako would know how to drive in snow.
Most cheechakos, however, arn't from cheechako.

Every year in Wisconsin when the first snow falls we have dozens of accidents, just this year I turned on my police scanner during our first snow fall and literally within 5 seconds a report came in over a roll over accident.
People are just careless and think they can gun it 55MPH on icy roads.

That might be true if only 1/3 of Anchorage drivers drove like maniacs no matter what the weather, but in actuality it's more like 3/4 of Anchorage drivers drive like maniacs.
