Every year in Wisconsin when the first snow falls we have dozens of accidents, just this year I turned on my police scanner during our first snow fall and literally within 5 seconds a report came in over a roll over accident.

People are just careless and think they can gun it 55MPH on icy roads.

Used to be half a foot of snow and everybody would stay home. Not so now. We go, snow or not. Snowplows have to move fast or they'll get run over.

Try 60 MPH on an icy road where if you screw up, you go over a cliff and land in a tree. I saw some idiot doing 60 (or more) on Calif Hwy 88 last week, with an inch of ice topped by blowing snow, on the way back from skiing. The posted speed limit here is 30MPH for mountain roads with ice / snow on them.
