RABAT, Jan 4 (Reuters) - Moroccan security forces have dismantled a cell that specialised in recruiting volunteers to fight in Iraq, the government said on Thursday.

"The security services dismantled a terrorist structure with international ramifications specialised in the recruitment and movement of volunteers to Iraq and operating in certain Moroccan towns and localities," a government statement carried on state news agency MAP said.

The authorities arrested 62 members of the group, which had "ideological and financial links" with al Qaeda and the Algeria-based Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat, it said.

Moroccan security officials say police have broken up more than 50 radical Islamist cells, some linked to al Qaeda, and arrested more than 3,000 people since suicide bombings in Casablanca in 2003.

"Morocco says busts cell recruiting Iraq fighters"

Something about breasts and phones attracting terrorists? I've always thought that Playboy and Verizon would deeply undermine Islamofascism.

It's due time to bomb the "financial links" off the face of the map!

Good news. It is nice to see that some of the muslim dominant countries really are working to eradicate the radical muslim groups.

The Moroccan Kingdom is one of the few Muslim states one can really describe as moderate/pro-western. The Moroccan Prime Minister is even jewish. They are basically the Arab counterpart to the Shah of Iran. Let's hope they are strong enough to resist Islamists attempts to depose them.

Let us hope your wish comes true. Interesting. The DOS during the early days of WWII pretty well ill adviced General Paton as to where not to land in order to not stir up the muslims against an already large established Jewish community.
Are you sure the Prime Minister is not Sunni Arab? I did a profile on PM Driss Jettou, and find he is Sunni. And a quick check at the CIA site shows the Jewish population to be about 1% of the total population.

Strange. I saw aprox. 3-4 years ago an interview with a high-level politician (prime or foreign minister) of either Morocco or Algeria (or even Tunesia). He had a French name and was definately jewish. They said he was the only Jew in the Muslim world holding a high-level government post. I will maybe do a research.

Ah! I've found the guy! He is no minister, but an senior advisor to the Moroccan King Muhammad VI.
His name is André Azoulay.

Only an advisor, but interesting enough. Quite telling about the king. Good for him.

Most likely some key position in the cabinet of one of these countries. But that is ok. I have made many slips. Brain gets mushy at times.
