New amnesty push likely in 07 by Bush, Dems

Five years into the war on terror, most Americans desperately hoped 2006 would be "the year" for solutions to the long national nightmare of intentionally unsecured borders and the resulting illegal immigration crisis. For many, the dream was that at a minimum, we would begin to see border security and immigration law enforcement similar to what Mexicans still living in Mexico enjoy. It didn't happen.

According to a report released in late 2006 by the House Committee of Homeland Security, up to 10 million people entered the United States illegally and un-inspected last year. Georgia watched as its population of illegal aliens increased by 114 percent - the highest rate of growth in the nation.

Now, 2007 is being touted as "the year." The word in Washington all over the country is that "comprehensive reform" - a repeat of the 1986 "one-time" path to citizenship for illegal aliens who come mostly from Mexico - must happen before official campaigning begins for the 2008 elections.

It seems that the party taking power in Congress is more in line with the president's ideas on how to treat the resentful illegals and the vast black market labor-addicted employers.

Even as it became clear on election night in November that the Democrats were taking over the House, White House Press Secretary Tony Snow remarked that the election results presented "interesting opportunities" for "comprehensive immigration reform."

For something that the "do-nothing" Congress accomplished, I point to stopping the McCain/Kennedy/Bush amnesty of 2006. To the GOP House: Gracias.

The solution to the illegal immigration problem coming from Washington can be boiled down to this: Make everybody "legal." Give them - again - the path to citizenship they demand, and whatever you do, don't mention the "A" word. The present voters are on to the amnesty swindle, but hold on, we have millions of potential new voters right in front of us!

"They might be unlawful aliens but otherwise lawful citizens," was how U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales described the millions of identity and wage-stealing illegal aliens in remarks during his Senate confirmation hearings in January. Happy New Year!

Having happily endorsed the re-writing and translating of the American national anthem, in the spring of 2006, millions of screaming illegals marched in America waving the flag of Mexico in a demand for "dignity," "justice" and amnesty for all. In Chicago, about 75,000 marching illegals were led by U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez.

Gutierrez is busy now helping write the House version of "comprehensive immigration reform." Happy New Year!

Imagine the headlines of "intolerance and racism" if Americans were to march by the millions in a demand for secure borders and requiring that illegals be punished along with their employers.

An effort to preserving the common language of our grandfathers, laws making English our official language were angrily ridiculed as "racist" by - among many - U.S. Sen. Harry Reid, (D-Nev.).

Does anyone remember the outrage of 1999 when El Cenizo, Texas, not only resolved to grant safe haven to all illegal aliens from Mexico, but made Spanish the town's official language? Me neither.

Here in Georgia, taking time out from lobbying against passage of the Georgia Security and Immigration Compliance Act, Jerry Gonzales, executive director of the Atlanta-based Georgia Association of Latino Elected Officials, joined marchers outside the CNN Center carrying signs calling CNN's Lou Dobbs a racist.

Dobb's offense? His must-see daily television presentation of the consequences of illegal immigration.

Beware: The open borders lobby, designed to create a climate of fear for Americans tempted to speak out in defense of their nation against amnesty-again, will be in high gear in 2007. On illegal immigration, the president has found new friends.

Happy New Year - or as we may be saying next year if illegals are rewarded with a path to citizenship again - Feliz Ano Nuevo.

Your howls about the relative percentages of the Tacredo caucus remind me of the fact that the immigration issue, despite the merit or lack thereof of Dane, got you no seats in Congress

The immigration caucus LOST A MUCH LOWER PERCENTAGE OF SEATS than the non-immigration caucus pubbies. So I'd say the pro-amnesty types are a much bigger problem for the GOP.

We probably had 40 million come in just since they started using the 12 million number. They are coming in at higher and faster rates now that amnesty looks like a sure deal.

My guess is that 1/2 of our population in 20 years will either be illegal or a descendent of an origional illegal.

A very large number of people don't want an amnesty program for illegals.

You are correct and I am one of them, but I don't think the pols, including Bush, give a damn. Time will tell.

If they give amnesty, we can expect at least 2 times as many immigrants coming into the country and a that point they will be legal due to amnesty given to their relative. Pretty scary, if you ask me.

Tancredo's House Immigration Caucus had 103 members as of the previous Congress. Of those 103 members, the following were defeated for re-election to Congress: Charlie Bass (R-NH), Jeb Bradley (R-NH), Jim Ryun (R-KS), John E. Sweeney (R-NY), Charles Taylor (R-NC), Gil Gutknecht (R-MN), and J.D. Hayworth (R-AZ).

That adds up to a total of 7 out of 103 defeated for re-election. Dane's statement does not appear to be grounded in any facts, much like Dane's previous claim that "no hard-right candidate on immigration won election to an open House seat in 2006".

Despite Dane's delusions that every Congressional race in the country looked like J.D. Hayworth district, there is amble evidence to the contrary. Here in Ilinois, retiring House Immigration Caucus member Henry Hyde was suceeded by the even more right-wing Peter Roskam. As much as Dane would like to pretend he and the other 14 new Republicans in Congress don't exist, they will provide amble numbers to replace the old members of Tanc's immigration caucus -- not to mention several conservative Democrats who got elected on such a platform.

I am not saying that members of the immigration caucus were defeated in larger numbers. What I AM saying is that the immigration issue IS NOT A VOTE GETTING ISSUE. People are sick of the hypocrisy and dilly dallying of Congress, not of the failure of Congress to build a wall and expell all the illegals.

That sentiment is a loser and no one who listens to public consensus (outside the echo chambers of fr) believes otherwise. There are many conservatives who DON'T think that the primary method of dealing with this is as a law enforcement issue. It has law enforcement ramifications, but that is NOT the core of the issue. Rather it is a markets issue, and we are sick and tired of the Buchanan/Tancredo crowd acting as if any other approach than mass expulsion and militarization of the border is "selling out America" "welcoming the invasion" or other such silly, silly, name calling. Add to that the vicious and hateful remarks that surface here in the immigrant threads, plus the hysterical fluttering over irresponsible tabloid articles like the recent crap about the "Amero," and we have a mirror image of the loons at DU.

My point in this thread was that many in the Tancredo caucus are NOT "law enforcement first" (or "law enforcement only") people. They, and I, are willing to adopt a wide range of methods, including more open entry, as a solution to the problem of having so many people here illegally. Just because they are in Tancredo's caucus is no reason to label them as members of the immigration goon squad.

I'm wondering if Bush's advisers understand that this is a wedge issue, and the GOP candidate running to be his successor will lose on this issue alone? A very large number of people don't want an amnesty program for illegals.

The Republicans may hang on for a while, but they will be finished as a political force as soon as Bush signs amnesty and enables 20 million Democrat voters.

Apparently the Dems are correct, Bush is too stupid to run the country.
