Only a matter of time before candidates take no oath of office at all, claiming it's a violation of their civil rights.

Under Article VI of the Constitution, Congressmen and other office holders need not take an oath of office at all - they can instead affirm their support of the Constitution of the United States. This is because even in the 1780s, some religious folks (most notably, Quakers) refused to swear an oath to God. The Framers created an out for them.

There also cannot be any religious test for holding office under Article VI.

Like it or not, Ellison was elected by his constituents and can swear his oath of office - or give his affirmation instead - on whatever book he wants (or no book at all). The Constitution allows it, and there's nothing you can do about it, short of moving to his congressional district and voting against Ellison in 2008. That's what the Framers intended.

In fact, House members are sworn in on the House floor en masse with their right hands raised and left hand on nothing. Anything else is just a photo-op taken in the Speaker's Office after the real swearing-in has occurred.

This thing of using the korraannn REALLY burns me up. What about swearing-in on the severed head of some innocent that the muslims have slain?

Oh, I know what, let's let politicians "take the oath" on....what?...maybe an empty beer can...or how about, maybe an empty cheetos bag?

Anything "empty" would work. After all, their oaths would be just as empty as what they're swearing on.

It just totally amazes me - the collosal stupidity of the left, that they don't see the "wrong" in this !

"I do NOT believe that Ellison was informed of the existence of this quran anonymously."

Did you read the rest of the piece?

The idea came from the terrorist group the Muslim Brotherhood, who want to establish Sharia law in the US.

It's kind of odd that there aren't more quotes from Jefferson about the "Musselmen," since they were so important to his administration.

But this is Jefferson's word -- which I had posted above in summary:

"On March 28, 1786 Jefferson and Adams detailed what they saw as the main issue:

“We took the liberty to make some inquiries concerning the Grounds of their pretensions to make war upon a Nation who had done them no Injury, and observed that we considered all mankind as our Friends who had done us no wrong, nor had given us any provocation. The Ambassador answered us that it was founded on the Laws of their Prophet, that it was written in their Koran, that all nations who should not have acknowledged their authority were sinners, that it was their right and duty to make war upon them wherever they could be found, and to make slaves of all they could take as Prisoners, and that every Musselman who should be slain in Battle was sure to go to Paradise.”

I didn't mean to be rude. I thought maybe you were being rhetorical.

No, the point is that he is lying about where he got the idea for the stunt. It was suggested to him by a notorious terrorist group on December 21st.

Thanks for including the info on MAS. I am sure you know of the CAIR connection also.

As long as the employees of the MSM make the silly Koran thing the only issue they are "spiking" the real news stories. It's what they do.

How often will he end up missing votes because he has to pray five times a day? Wait a minute! That's probably going to be a good thing!

That's actually a good point. I wonder if they will be forced to schedule around his prayer time and other downtimes for various rituals.

This man is only doing this to become relevant in the news. He doesnt care about the people he represents. He is only doing this to get on camera. That is it.
So what we need to do here on Freerepublic is just ignore his useless ass.

An English translation of the Arabic, Jefferson's Quran was published in 1764 in London, a later printing of one originally published in 1734.

To Muslims, it's not a real Quran unless it's in Arabic anyway.

He implies that's the case. Could be he had it to understand the faith of the Muslims who were kidnapping Americans off North Africa.
