Oh as another choice that would fill your criteria that is both "pro-business"/ala free markets, not specifically a neo-con, and has been EXCELLENT on Spending and taxes, he even bridges the gap between smaller-govie and social tradional conservative strains (as I state earlier are not opposed) is the Hon. Mike Pence, IN-06th!!

I favor him most..he's a staunch fiscal and social Conservative Ala R. Reagan!!

I'm sure you've heard of him..

Mike Pence has been a great leader in the House on spending issues. I disagree with him on foreign policy (one of the main reasons I favor Hagel), but I like him and I would certainly consider supporting him in the primaries were he to run.

I showed the Democrats that I can help them. I stuck it to my president when he needed me most, etc, but, hey, no one will notice it that much. These are different times.

Well put! I will never forgive ol' Chuckie for that one, and I would never vote for him. (Or McCain or Guiliani.)

...he will also appeal to traditional (non-neo) conservatives.

**
Not this traditional conservative.

Personally, I think marriage should not be any business of the state. It's a religious institution and the government should stay out of it completely. I definitely disagree with the stunt the NJ Supreme Court pulled by basically telling the Legislature they had to make a law. If there must be a law regarding marriage, then I think referendum is probably the way to go. I also disagree with federalizing the issue by forcing states NOT to allow same-sex marriages. Arizona, for example, opted not to pass a marriage amendment, so if some state were to pass a same-sex marriage law (as may happen in Massachusetts), then they should have the right to maintain that law.

Don't confuse the Libertarian Party (big-L) with the ideology of libertarianism (small-l).

Would you be so kind as to define the difference for me? Thanks.

Well, you have to realize that in Massachusetts the courts basically did force the legislature to legalize it there to (the NJ court probably just copy and pasted for their perverted tastes). I don't doubt that they will TRY to legalize it in MA, but if they do sure you are right (I think it's disgusting, and INSANE!) and I would not like it, but hey if it was done legislatively I would fight it, but I couldn't complain about a "rigged system" like I can now..

I too like Pence, hopefully he will decided to run someday (maybe even for Gov. you never know...)!

...IOW, outside of the Beltway/NY/SF/LA, nobody watches. Still, Pubbies will sell their souls to be on Meet the Press. Hagel and McCain are the worst of that bunch...

Yes, I can see how the MSM will inflate these guy's egos...They must think, if they invite it must be because I am important!... not just the "useful idiots" that they are.

I saw MacaCain in Imus this morning... being the Media whore that he is... He is being careful though... I can see his handlers are couching him well... In a different era he would have convinced us by now that he is, and has always been the champion of conservatism and the most loyal of them all... Huh!

Imus is still crying over Harold Ford's loss in Tennessee, but he found a new love - LOL - The new Messiah: Obama
