Thank you, OXENinFLA for putting together the below comments and links!
.
Since "Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.", I and others think it's a good idea to centralize what the goes on in the Senate (or House).
So if you see something happening on the Senate/House floor and you don't want to start a new thread to ask if anyone else just heard what you heard, you can leave a short note on who said what and about what and I'll try and find it the next day in THE RECORD. Or if you see a thread that pertains to the Senate, House, or pretty much any GOV'T agency please link your thread here.
If you have any suggestions for this thread please feel free to let me know.
Here's a few helpful links.
C-SPAN what a great thing. Where you can watch or listen live to most Government happenings.
C-SPAN 1 carries the HOUSE.
C-SPAN 2 carries the SENATE.
C-SPAN 3 (most places web only) carries a variety of committee meetings live or other past programming.
OR FEDNET has online feed also.
A great thing about our Government is they make it really easy for the public to research what the Politicians are doing and saying (on the floor anyway).
THOMAS where you can see a RECORD of what Congress is doing each day. You can also search/read a verbatim text of what each Congressmen/women or Senator has said on the floor or submitted 'for the record.' [This is where the real juicy stuff can be found.]
Also found at Thomas are Monthly Calendars for the Senate ,
Senate Republicans and Senate Democrats
And Monthly Calendars for the House and Roll Call Votes can be found here.
THE WAR DEPARTMENT (aka The Dept. of Defense)
She says this amendment is TOO COMPLICATED...
WTH...they can't DO complicated things in the Senate??
I think we need a new test for our candidates.
Do you refuse to do work that is complicated???
If they think it is a complicated amendment and needs more study and discussion (like they actually do study and discussion), they can vote against it and move on.
Gregg is really good at this stuff. He has virtually total recall and can verbalize wonderfully.
He just pulled out a quote from DiFi from 1995...AGREEING that the POTUS should have line item veto..for the exact reason they are discussing today.
Gregg is good and clever...
We agree :)
Gregg is pointing out that DiFi once supported the language ... when the Dems wrote it ..
I am soooooooooooooo enjoying Gregg work this debate *L*
Oh...lord, Lott is here.
UGH.
Let's see if this old fool, Lott, will do us any harm.
Why did he show up?
Did Reid go running to him for help?
A manhood thing?
McConnell would make very sure that his second in command is on board with him. He has quite a bit of influence with our friend Trent.
Hiya again.
I was on the Thomas website and looking at the "Yesterday in Congress" link and saw this:
45. H.R.501 : -- Private Bill; For the relief of Valerie Plame Wilson.
Sponsor: Rep Inslee, Jay [WA-1] (introduced 1/16/2007) Cosponsors (None)
Committees: House Intelligence (Permanent Select)
Latest Major Action: 1/16/2007 Referred to House committee. Status: Referred to the House Committee on Intelligence (Permanent Select).
Is there any way we can find out more about what this is if it is a Private Bill?
I just got a call back from my Repub Rep Tim Johnson who I called last week to thank for his support on the Stem Cell Bill last week and to also chastise him for not supporting Pres Bush's troop increase.....told him my hubby and son are in Iraq and I llok at this troop increase as re-enforcements...and that he is denying my son help.....and that the rats intend to cut off funding for the incoming troops and what was I supposed to do, send ammo in his care packages every month???....also said why is it that no matter what, the Dems always manage to stick together and the Repubs bash their own Repub Pres...no wonder we lost both Houses in 06!
The aide said that the Iraqis have to start standing up for themselves and that is why Johnson is not in favor of the troop increase but promises that funding will never be cut off...blah blah blah
Good catch!
I'll see if I can find anymore then what you found
Hey, guys, check out this site:
http://www.govtrack.us/
It is my opinion...that at this time, if the Iraqis are worried that the USA will pull out of Iraq too soon, because of political play here in the USA...
Then they will be too AFRAID to stand up for themselves right now. Why would they stand up for themselves NOW if the dems and RINOS have a chance of keep the USA from staying as long as it takes?
If they DID stand up right now..especially the government, and we DID pull out sooner than necessary...THEY would all have major bulls-eyes on their backs...they would all be killed!!!
They can ONLY afford to stand up and force the militias out and Sadr out...if they KNOW that they will have America's support LONG ENOUGH to make sure that the militias and Sadr's group won't be able to regroup and come take down the government.
Am I making any sense??
I just think the government HAS to feel secure before they will stand up.
I know that my granddaughter would NOT feel secure trying to stand up, until she KNEW that I would catch her if she tried and failed...
WOW!
Neat site...how did you find it??
I think I'll save that link.
Thanks!!!!!
