WASHINGTON Gerald R. Ford leaves his beloved U.S. Capitol for the last time Tuesday as the period set aside for ordinary Americans to say goodbye gives way to an elaborate invitation-only funeral at the awe-inspiring Washington National Cathedral.
As the first order of business Tuesday, Ford's remains were being removed from the Rotunda to lie in repose briefly outside the Senate before leaving the Capitol where Ford served as a congressman for 25 years. As vice president, Ford also had the constitutional title of president of the Senate.

Poor Nancy. Stuck on the end next to Roslyn. Carter should have traded places with her.
Though I can't stand Carter myself, it is in the healing character of President Ford to want his funeral to address both parties. I'm not happy about his choice, but it is his funeral and it is interestingly reminiscent of a time that we really don't seem to be able to return to.
A time when Democrats and Republicans could talk to each other and together accomplish things.
Cheney's speech the other night rocked. President Ford held this country together for over 2 years when we needed it.
Yes, he was selected by President Ford. I will read the comments here and be content with that.
I hear ya. God bless you on your journey. I think you'll love your new home.
They sure did 20+ years ago. When did that change?
It will take me awhile. I'm not on a fast road, missed the current RCIA class and I do long for the Eucharist. But, thank you and God willing, I will get there.
It was hard for me to leave the ECUSA but I absolutely had to and this is my destiny.
Oh, and I did read about your Christmas Eve, btw; wished I was there!!
Thank you, STARWISE, it's the first I have said this publicly. I guess it's the right time.
:)
I figure Clinton's will be in a black church since he the first black President, and we will have another Wellstone moment. Maybe he will go to one of those black churches he saw burned down and rebuilt. (sarcasm)
We will go from two funerals, Pres Reagan and Pres Ford, handled with dignity to the gutter with Clinton. As for the peanut farmer, he was a disaster as President and been worse since he left office. Cannot even imagine what they will say about Carter except 'sell-out' and I am sure that word will not be used.
Did Chris Wallance just say he's never heard the Lord's Prayer sung before??
I agree! Good to see you. I thought you might have run away to LV or sumpin'.....
We will represent you all.
There is a lot I could say about this area (Grand Rapids) and how it likely shaped the former President's politics. Some of it is probably responsible for some of the head scratching moments. This is not the right time though...so we will be off to do the right thing :)
Did he?
I'm a cradle Catholic, but one of my favorite books of music is the Oxford Hymnal. I love the more formal, meaningful Church music, though I do like some of the modern stuff, too. Our Parish has Masses to accomodate both tastes. The 11am Mass is the pipe organ Mass, and the 5:30pm is the electric piano and acoustic guitar Mass.
Welcome to the family
Chapels can be very nice!! Perfect for a wedding, I think.
I wasn't sure, that's why I was asking
I just found it odd
((( Dolphy ))) My heart with be with you! I am so happy you're going.
