WASHINGTON — Gerald R. Ford leaves his beloved U.S. Capitol for the last time Tuesday as the period set aside for ordinary Americans to say goodbye gives way to an elaborate invitation-only funeral at the awe-inspiring Washington National Cathedral.

As the first order of business Tuesday, Ford's remains were being removed from the Rotunda to lie in repose briefly outside the Senate before leaving the Capitol where Ford served as a congressman for 25 years. As vice president, Ford also had the constitutional title of president of the Senate.

The schism has already occurred.

Key parishes in Virginia split from Episcopal Church in feud

One of the parishes is where Fred Barnes is a member .. he was speaking about it on Special Report a couple of weeks ago.

Episcopal Church sees first defection

Fred mentioned a critical area of contention that must be resolved .. and that's the dispensation of the multi-million dollar properties involved.

Wonderful pic of W - he looks tanned and rested. His time in Crawford must have been good for his soul.

But inappropriate behavior needs to be truthfully noted.

Exactly! It has been a beautiful service and the songs have been beautiful, but I don't give people like Brokaw a pass either. His comments about Nixon and the press were unbecoming and should have not been said IMHO. But then I would expect no less out of Brokaw.

I'm listening on the radio to the service as I work. Its quite a ceremony.
Any shots of Clintoon sleeping or biting his lower lip in reflection of President Ford's life?

Wouldn't you care how you were remembered? Wouldn't you like your family to hear nice things about you in the days and weeks that follow your death?

It is despicable but not surprising. I saw him and put mute on so not to get mad -- sure glad I did.
