Interesting but surprising. I thought his body would have been buried in an unmarked grave (like Zarqavi's).

That's what I thought, too.

Let'em gather there. Then bomb the place. (Wishful thinking...)

A mistake. An unmarked cesspool or composting heap would do much better.

Saddam upon capture: "I am president Saddam Hussein and I am prepared to negotiate."
Iraqi people: Negotiations closed.

Same here.
I was thinking that Saddam would be cremated and his ashes dumped in the desert somewhere.
There's now a shrine for every Baathist and Saddam-worshipper to go to.
The Russians had the right idea. They hid Hitler's body for decades because they didn't want it to be a shrine for every Nazi lover and Hitler-worshipper.

The article said -- "A defence lawyer and a senior Iraqi government official confirmed the plan for the ousted president to be buried in his home region, a bastion of the Sunni Arab insurgency against the U.S. occupation and the Shi'ite-led government."
That's a bad move. They should have kept the body away from that area (the center of the terrorist insurgency). It will simply add fuel to all this stuff. It will serve no good.
A better use of the body would have been to give it to a circus, touring the U.S. and have people pay $5 a ticket to see him.

Screw that, dismember his body and dump it in the Gulf or one of the rivers (Tigris or Euphrates, their call).

FNC is saying Saddam requested burial in RAMADI, not Tikrit. And that is what is planned. Deliberately as a center of the Sunni rebellion. How can this be? Unless we want to see who goes there and use it for intel purposes?

They should have done what the Allies did in Germany when they hung the 13 memembers of Hitler's gov't .... cremate them and drop the ashes into the local river ... no shrine, no place for fanatics to gather .....

This is a mistake in an effort to accommodate Sunni sensibliities. Saddam's grave will be a symbol and rallying point.

Did you hear that it would be RAMADI, not Tikrit, at Saddam's request? I just about fainted from shock. Not really, but if true, this is insanity. (Unless we want to see "who goes there" and then zap them...)

I think RAMADI is where the sons are burried. It is dumb. Ramadi is insurgent central. It would be a good idea to see who shows up there but would be tough without control there.
There could also be trouble from those who may wish to desecrate the grave, like burying a big IED there.
To: indcons; All
Saran wrap or a BIG Ziploc Bag and sealed in a Port-o-let, painted in bad taste and buried in a septic field on the outskirts of the Tikrit Waste Treatment Plant. S shrine for all. Pilgrims from far and wide may visit the day of his neck lengthening every year and eat a crap cookie to Sadassed's memory.
Aloha Sadman, You sure sucked the big one while you were here.
