This would make many Iraqi Shias link the death of Saddam always with Sadr, making Sadr the one who brought Saddam to justice (since they would interpret this as Saddam acknowleding that Sadr has finally won).
Since most Iraqis despise Saddam, the Sadrists might also hope that this will raise their (poor) reputation among most Iraqis.
That's at least what would be in their interest.

He just left the building.
Thanks for sharing your opinion, it certainly is interesting to see how it is being reported by the lamestream.
Have a Happy New year!
Joyful and happy 2007 to you aswell!
Anyone have a casserole recipe for using left over turkey?
That black "padding" was loaded with K-Y lubricant.
Saddam has "slipped away" and is eating a big ham at Camp David with Karl Rove right now.
Watch now for all sorts of fancies - from Saddam being US agent, alive and living in a secret location in States to how brave & defiant he was fighting the US till the end.
I keep saying to myself that I will not watch any video of the hanging, but it is like driving by a car wreck. You can't stop yourself from peaking. Just a little. Then it is too late.
Around midnight I was watching FoxNews and Jamie Colby was interviewing an Iraqi that was present for the hanging. I'm sorry that I don't recall his position or reason for being there. Anyway, he confirmed that they tried to hood Saddam, but he didn't want the hood. The witness stated that it was not really so much bending to Saddam's will to allow him to refuse the hood ... the hanging party just didn't seem to view refusal as a big thing so they just let it go.
Hopefully you will find me credible enough because I don't have a link or remember anything more specific.
The next job...see that Muqtada al-Sadr meets the same fate as Saddam.
What was the purpose of the black scarf? So he wouldn't hurt his neck?
That is one BIG hangman's knot. Or is that the result of a wide angle camera?
btt for later
'Dope on a Rope' bump.
You said -- OK... I'm no expert on real hangin's, but I've seen enough fake movie hangin's to wonder ... what was the possible purpose of all that material around Saddam's neck that "padded" the noose?
Well, I'm not an expert in that either. BUT, I do know that the goal of these hangings is to snap the neck in a hurry, making it clean and swift. And so, I would suspect that it has something to do with allowing the rope to slide around to the proper position, giving it the full "snap" when dropped. I know that on skin, being that it's elastic, things (like the rope) could grab and "hang up" somewhat, making it less effective (although it would most likely kill him anyway).
So, that's my guess.
And, if I were going to go for a second try at guessing (this being less likely, I would think), it may possibly be related to not scarring up his neck as much as it could, if it were directly on his skin.
The first guess is the one I would pick as the most likely.

You said -- "I keep saying to myself that I will not watch any video of the hanging, ..."
Don't worry, I don't believe you're going to find any video of the hanging -- although it was taken. They'll keep that part of the video "locked up" for a very long time.
I, personally, would prefer that they release it (especially considering the fact that the terrorists don't restrict their videos of heads being sawed off). But, I think because of all the "PC" sentiment around, it would be considered by the "panty-waists" as an insult to those poor Muslims. What a crock. It's no insult to Americans for sawing off heads, but hang a criminal and it's an insult (to "see" it).
Bottom line -- you're not going to see it...

Hope you didn't peak too much.
