Friday Night Pig Racing (next door to the mosque)
Midland Reporter-Telegram ^ | 12/06 | Shanna Sissom

Posted on 12/30/2006 6:20:02 AM PST by RKV

While Muslim faithful are worshiping Allah, sounds of liquored up Texans chasing greased pigs may soon be heard outside the mosque.

"Comin' soon weekly Friday night pig racin'" reads the sign in the Houston suburb of Katy. It goes on to promote a greased pig-catching contest, the opportunity to purchase a slow pig to save its life and--of all things--a pork cook-off. Bring your own bottle, the sign also says and boasts the availability of "clean port-o-pots."

It sounds like a rowdy Friday night outing, Texas style.

But the planned pig races are wallowing in controversy. A Muslim group having just purchased adjacent property to build a mosque is not amused by the new sign and upcoming swine activities as neighbors--including parishioners at a nearby church my mother pastors--are left wondering what's going to happen to the neighborhood.

Not far from the large pig racing sign, the other group has a small placard that says "KIA Community Center coming soon," I'm told, with the acronym standing for Katy Islamic Association.

This sort of thing, of course, attracts attention from media types and the pigs have already been in the news. Our sister Hearst newspaper, the Houston Chronicle, is among those following the story.

"Pig race leads to dirty argument," the headline read. TV news crews also got onboard, interviewing the property owner who posted the sign and pig pens.

The property owner claims the religious group had asked him to leave land occupied by his family since the 1800s, while Muslims deny ever having said that. But that's apparently what prompted the pig racing idea.

Pigs, as you probably know, are considered offensive and dirty animals by the religious group. Making matters worse, Fridays are considered a holy day for followers of Islam who--unless things change--will be flocking to the mosque while pig festivities are underway.

There is other opposition, as nearby homeowners in an upscale residential area have publicly expressed concern for mosque traffic, and fear the "unknown," as the Chronicle reported, while worrying what the construction of a gold dome-covered structure would mean for their own property values.

Meanwhile, mosque members say they're puzzled by all the intense opposition. I've not seen any reports of neighbors complaining about the pigs, but this thing is far from over.

One thing's for certain: During an upcoming holiday visit I'm going to check out these pig races. Until just recently, I had never heard of such a thing.

But for now, I am left to wonder how this will all end.

The pig photos, which I meant to forward to another church friend, instead accidentally got sent to a Midland attorney in my address book, whose first letters in the e-mail are the same as hers.

Upon realizing this, I shot an explanation and apology e-mail to the lawyer friend, notified the original sender and had a laugh out loud moment. Then came her reply.

"Who knows, those pigs may need a good lawyer before it's all over."

Don't hold back, tell us what you think.

Well, when our "betters" in the MSM presume to mind-read the motivations of ordinary Americans, it is necessary to correct them.

The FBI and Homeland Security will be forcing the owner of the pig races to undergo sensitivity training before this is over.

CAIR is already whining. [So what else is new? The sun rises in the east. Water is wet. Ice is cold.]

"colonize" Yep. The area becomes the muslim quarter...

They've been pulling this same stunt for the last thousand years. It should not be controversial when people call them on it.

This guy needs to put in a BBQ place. The smell of BBQ pork ribs wafting over the mosque would have these people re thinking their commitment to Allah.

I heard a radio report a couple of days ago. In it, the local Mosque rep said they didn't care what the owner did with his property.

I thought, 'Yeh? Just wait until one of those hot, humid, sultry days and all those pig dropping begin to smell. Nothing is any worse than that odor. And it lingers. And it permeates. And it spreads for miles.'

If a mosque were built down your street, you'd never be able to sell your house. It would be worth squat.

Except maybe you could sell it on the cheap to a mosque attender.

I read in another report of this a few weeks ago that the mosque site plans show construction that would require about twice the land the mosque currently owns. Ironically, the amount of additional land to complete the intended project is about the same amount as the adjoining property -- where the pig races are to be held.

Mz. Shanna Sissom quite obviously hasn't got the brains God gave a dead cat. This breezy little bit of fluff is all about ME ME ME.

The man who is holding the pig races, Craig Baker, has a website, www.americanpigraces.com where anyone can read his side of this story. One of the very least things that airhead reporter Shanna could have mentioned in her blurb is the fact that the property in question is on BAKER ROAD.
As in, the Baker family has lived on that land since the pioneer days.

The news articles about Mr. Baker and his new neighbors all seem to slant towards portraying Mr. Baker as a racist. In fact, he is more concerned about defending his good name. Achmed and Walid, generic names for the men who suggested to Mr. Baker that he pack up and move, got up at a HOA meeting and called Mr. Baker a liar. Of course they never suggested such a thing when they met their new neighbor FOR THE FIRST TIME!

I live a thousand miles from Baker Rd. Words cannot express how much I admire Craig Baker for standing up and actually doing something about the threat that all Americans must now face. This man is one really lousy dhimmi. I've got a hunch that he's one hell of a Texan, though.

Would you post your photo with the sign, etc from the other thread? It gives some info to the discussion as to property location.

I've got some ideas about what Mr. Baker should do about the inevitable "calls to prayer" which would be associated with mosque. 1) get the county involved in a noise abatement issue - make the muzzies shut off the noise 2) if that is not successful, counter the prayer calls with equal volume.

Well we all know that in the end the Office of Planning and zoning will rule that Pig racing isnt zoned in that area ,but Mosques are.

Its only a matter of time and the Izzies will win.

Man, you don't know stink until you've been to a pig farm. Feedlots, dairies, etc. are just not in the same league. That said, I certainly do enjoy a plate of ribs.

Want to wager on who wins this? My bet is that the people who hear sermons on Jews being pigs and dogs will win.
