Overflow Crowd Greets Edwards' Tour
My Way News ^ | December 29, 2006 | Holly Ramer

It was a crowd to warm any candidate's heart - even in a New Hampshire winter. Over a year ahead of the nation's first presidential primary, so many voters turned out Friday to hear Democratic hopeful John Edwards' call for a new spirit of American activism on problems ranging from poverty to global warming that hundreds were left standing outside in freezing temperatures.

Nearly a quarter of the crowd of more than 800 were unable to squeeze into the elementary school cafeteria where Edwards was to speak.

The former North Carolina senator and 2004 vice presidential nominee ended up giving his introductory remarks outside, using a microphone that broadcast his voice inside, before heading indoors.

"What we're asking is for you, the people of New Hampshire, not to wait for the next election to take responsibility," he said. "Identifying a problem and talking about hope is talking about tomorrow. We can't wait until tomorrow."

New Hampshire was the third stop on Edwards's six-state, three-day tour to announce his second candidacy for the Democratic presidential nomination. The early announcement allows him time to build grass-roots support in states with early nominating contests, including Iowa, Nevada, South Carolina and New Hampshire, where Edwards finished fourth in 2004.

He's hardly been a stranger since then, returning to the state just three months after the 2004 general election and at least nine more times before officially starting his second campaign this week.

I hope the democrats are stupid enough to nominate Edwards, Kerry or Gore. I'm afraid they aren't quite that foolish.

He just sold his D.C. house for over $5,000,000! He's too cheap to rent a hall?

My favorite quote from the article: "......hundreds were left freezing outside" while waiting to hear about global warming! Hah!

Only 800 in the crowd? Was this an "overflow" crowd for a very small venue? The title for the article makes it sound like there could have been thousands. Overhype, anyone?

"...talking about hope is talking about tomorrow. We can't wait until tomorrow."

Wasn't that BJ Clinton's campaign line?

From the title, I thought he turned out a crowd as big as that of the faithful who jam the square to hear the Pope speak.

Eight hundred?

We had more than that turn out at our local county clinic for flu shots.

Eight-hundred causes an overflow crowd? LOL! When I read the headline I thought there must be a lot of stupid people in New Hampshire. Now I don't feel so bad.

Gosh, those hundreds of shivering NH liberals must think that global warming is not happening fast enough now....

I think the average middle school or high school crowd would have been on to his BS. The elementary crowd were the only one's who would laugh at his jokes I guess.

Golly, gee. I must have missed his North Carolina gig. Oh, that's right, he hasn't seen fit to grace his home state with his presence.

We (North Carolinians) wouldn't reelect this turd to a second term in the Senate. Why in the world would I vote for him for President of the United States?!

And the majority of the 800, I would wager, were Edwards campaign staff, paid union "rent-a-mob" types and the media.

I forget, which one of them talks to dead people and holds the tile of "Biggest Douche in the Universe"? John Edward or him?

Now I remember, both of them do and are.

As hazardous as it is to make a prediction this far out, I'd say Edwards has the best shot at the Dem nomination.

It will not be Gore, Kerry, Rodham or Obama. Unless the Democrats are REALLY that eff-ing stupid.
