The Iraqi government has told U.S. officials that former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein could be executed within the next few days, a senior Bush administration official said on Thursday.
"I've heard that it's going to be a couple more days, probably," the official said while Bush took a holiday break at his Texas ranch.
He said he had heard from U.S. officials in Baghdad that the execution would not be Thursday U.S. time or Friday Baghdad time. "It's going to be maybe another day or so," the official said.
He said the government of Iraq would most likely inform U.S. officials about the timing of the execution when it gets closer.
The U.S. official's comments were at odds with those of Iraqi officials who earlier backed away from suggestions Saddam would be hanged within a month. The officials said that the hanging would occur within 30 days only if Iraq's president issues a decree it takes place immediately, which seemed unlikely.
Saddam is a good start.
I don't believe Reuters OR Reuters. They are liars, all!
We should.
What's the hold up?
Per reports, they must execute him before April 2007 when he turns 70. After that, it would be against Iraqi law to execute him.
Per reports, the US has already provided a mobile gallows.
Per reports, they have said they will execute him before the end of the year.
The longer they linger, the more likely the UN and EU and WC and ACLU and IRC and AI and CAIR will all be issuing their obligatory whines.
Get on with it!
If they don't the stomach to carry it out, heck, send him over to Ethiopia. Those Ethiopians seem to know who to deal with matters.
It should be done right when the ball hits bottom in Time Square.

Is his hanging going to be in synch with the ball dropping in Times Square?

They're the same person using two computers. They pressed send on both of them at the same time just to mess with us.
I flew many missions to the mass graves south of Baghdad. One of the graves held a woman holding her baby, both shot in the head and the baby sill had a pacifyer in his mouth. I say hanging is too good for this monster
They already have issued their whines.

National Security adviser Mouffak al Rubaie says the date of the deposed dictator's execution will not be made public, to avoid possible unrest from Saddam's supporters, but everything from the signing of the final orders by the judge, to the hanging itself will be recorded. Iraqis, members of the coalition, and international representatives will witness the execution. It's not clear whether the videotape will be broadcast on Iraqi television. An Iraqi government official says efforts are under way to carry out the death... |
On the other hand, Robert Byrd, in one of his rare moments of cognizance, could offer his hood to the exectioner...
If Saddam possesses an ounce of sanity, and I believe he does, facing the unknown time of his certain death is much more torturous than his actual hanging will be.
For this reason, I hope that he is as unsure of his death date as we are and, like his victims, is suffering in a cold sweat, wondering when the time will be.
At least they didn't say anything about him being "saddam-ized".
Sort of like Nick Berg's beheading.
What this monster did to thousands of people can never be forgiven or forgotten.
The first step to recovery, is to watch and witness this monster hanging from the end of a rope.
I am probably alone concerning this hanging, but I would not want to watch anyone be hung, Sadaam included. I agree he should be put to death, but I don't find it something to celebrate.I hope and pray that Sadaam has a heart change before the rope goes around his neck. Heaven is open to the vilest sinner, if one seeks repentance. ( Remember the thief on the cross next to Jesus?)
Okay, I have spoken my piece. Flame away!
