Michale Reagan has a column up where he has some great things to say about Romney. Essentially, he says that Romney and Giuliani are the type of leaders/candidates that could beat Sen. Hillary Clinton:
The common wisdom holds that it is all but inevitable that Hillary Clinton will be the Democratic presidential nominee in 2008, and that shell be a formidable if not unbeatable candidate.I dont disagree with that assumption, despite the sudden emergence of Barack Hussein Obama as the medias newest darling. I see him as nothing more than a passing fancy for the mainstream media. If it becomes evident that he poses a real threat to Sen. Hillary Clinton hell suddenly find himself under a withering fire of criticism and he wont have the vaguest notion where its all coming from. Wiser heads, however, will understand that the Clinton attack machine is back in action and before its finished Obama will be history.
So lets accept the fact that whoever the GOP nominee is, hell be facing Hillary Clinton. If the Republicans want to win, they will have to decide which Mrs. Clinton they plan to run against; just plain Hillary Clinton, or United States Senator Hillary Clinton, D-NY.
If they choose to run against Hillary Clinton, theyll lose. If they choose to run against Senator Clinton, theyll win hands down.
If we run against Hillary Clinton as the former first lady, if we run against her as the wife of Bill Clinton, if we run against the cherished darling of the media who spent eight years all but canonizing her as Americas patron saint, shell win.
Running against that Hillary is the wrong argument. If, however, you run against Senator Hillary Clinton and her record, or her abysmal lack of one as a senator, you can win.
If you focus on her dismal record of accomplishment and not on her carefully created image as St. Hillary and her hyped-up public personality youll beat her hands down.
You can beat the senator; you cannot beat the cardboard saint.
Consider her record as a senator. She admits she voted for the war and now she says it was a mistake, not exactly the kind of consistency we expect from a president.
Senatorial candidate Hillary Clinton promised to bring 200,000 new jobs to New York. She failed, claiming that she didnt have the benefit of a Democratic Congress to help her achieve that goal, but adding that even though there had not been the kind of environment she hoped for, there had been some progress.
The fact is that there hasnt been any progress. New York is not improving its getting worse. New York has lost 112,000 jobs since sending Senator Clinton to Washington.
In contrast, consider the records of two Republicans, Mitt Romney and Rudy Giuliani. Both governed with Democratic majorities in both state legislatures.
Back on April 12, 2006, Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney signed into law an act to provide health insurance to virtually all citizens of Massachusetts and did it without raising taxes.
Working with Democrats in the state legislature and others, he developed a plan that starting next July will make mandatory health insurance for all state residents, providing a plan is available to the individual that is deemed affordable according to state standards.
Romneycare won in 2006, Hillarycare lost in 1993.
Romney has done much more and been credited with creating an environment that has attracted new jobs to his state, especially in the field of technology. Massachustts added jobs, New York lost them.
Another executive facing Democratic-controlled city and state legislative bodies was New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani. His leadership in the nations toughest city created jobs, brought down crime, and shepherded the city through the darkest days after 9/11.
Those are genuine records of accomplishments, and when you run candidates with such records you can win against candidates with dismal records such as Senator Hillary Clintons.
The point is when you argue on the merits you can win. When you argue on personalities, you lose.
Its no wonder Senator Hillary Clinton, who has the media in her pocketbook, wants you to attack her as Hillary Clinton and not as Senator Clinton who has accomplished nothing meaningful as a senator.
Matched against a Republican with a solid record for getting things done, shes a sure loser.
With an 88% Democrat government, I would think that people would be flocking to such a Marxist Utopian paradise.
That's a great description of Hillary and wonderful writing! I'd say it's fabulous but then some would suspect I've lost my Primordial Manliness. :-)
...If they choose to run against Hillary Clinton, theyll lose. If they choose to run against Senator Clinton, theyll win hands down.
Rudy Giuliani has many problems that will hinder his chances of securing the GOP nomination. Rudy is a liberal and a big government Republican. A self professed Rockefeller Republican. Rudy has always favored gun control and an assault weapons. He's been a career long supporter of abortion on demand and has opposed partial birth abortion. Rudy is pro amnesty and has promoted special rights for gays. Can't see conservative Republicans being hoodwinked into voting for Rudy in the GOP primaries. Rudy can't run from his political liberalism and his liberal record as Mayor of NYCity. You're right. Rudy`s campaign is DOA.
Rudy is a corrupt, gun grabbing control freak with the ethics of a guinea pig.
Romney is not perfect, but at least he has at least 30 IQ points on Giussolini.
I dont see why people think Hillary will be a good, even unbeatable, candidate. She's shrewd politicaly, and has tried to positon herself in the center, thats smart, but in reality she's a leftist, radical feminist, and is actually pretty terrible on the stump and is not a very likable person.
I agree about Giuliani though, if he can get through the primaries. I think there's evidence that he can. People are now petty aware that "he's liberal on social issues" and yet he still leads in many polls. I dont think people care about the social issues as much as they use to.
Moderator, please take that down, don`t know what I was thinking
She will, but not the men you are thinking. She will get the college crowd of libs to vote for her, who do you think voted in all the RATS this time? If they can listen to some of the current "music", her voice isn't any worse than that!!!
Rudy is far from doa....he is a leader and gets results...
he does have the stuff for foreign policy matters...
domestically..he will move right....
if more in the US are of your opinion...the end game will be hillary/hussein in power in 09!!!!!
Giuliani/Romney would be a powerhouse , outside the box ticket, and wouldn't fade at the end. After 8 years of Rudy, Romney as veep would be a household name, ready to be elected. At the present, Romney is not a national figure.
Currently, I'm betting on a Clinton-Obama ticket. However, I've been wrong frequently before. ;-)
Romneycare won in 2006, Hillarycare lost in 1993.
He did get the health insurance passed, but I don't know that I'd be trumpeting it as a success when it won't be implemented for another 6 months...
The point is when you argue on the merits you can win. When you argue on personalities, you lose.
Makes sense to me. Arguing on the merits is rational and adult - arguing on personalities just makes you look petty.
So far Romney is my favorite of the candidates under consideration. How does the MSM like him, though?
Back on April 12, 2006, Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney signed into law an act to provide health insurance to virtually all citizens of Massachusetts and did it without raising taxes.
Why didn't he also provide everyone with a new Mercedes by ordering them to buy one as well.

You got that right. I strongly dislike liberals but I loathe communists and Rockefeller Republicans.
Ronald Jr., on the other hand, seems to only have gotten the recessive genes in the brains department.
Mark Sanford would be great and my first choice too. Is there any hint on whether he is interested. At the very least, I'd like to see him send Lindsey Graham into retirement. Sanford and Coburn would be a superb one-two punch in the senate. I like Jeff Sessions a lot also, but he is just too dang nice.
Here's an earlier thread about the mass exodus:

You'll see it accelerate under our new liberal governor.
