I met him in Athens and had a 15 minute one on one conversation with him while he was waiting to go on a cruise ship in the 90s. I have a picture inscribed with a personal greeting to remember the event. Very down to earth, pleasant person. Served this country well in a critical period. He did the right thing in pardoning Nixon.

The first KING to be president.
He was born Lesley King and had his name changed when he was adopted.

FYI.. In my stocking this weekend, I got a book, "Halsey's Typhoon"..about the storm that struck the Pacific Fleet off Okinawa in WW II. Among the pics is one of Lt Gerald Ford playing basketball aboard one of the carriers just before the storm hit.
Ford's legacy is still debatable, IMHO, and not because he didn't know that Poland wasn't then a free country, but rather because his pardon of Nixon gave us four years of Carter...
I do hope that the Ford family has a modest burial, lest comparisons with Reagan's funeral be made.

My favorite Gerald Ford quote was "A government big enough to give you everything you want is also a government big enough to take from you everything you have."
Well, he did have a very long life.

but rather because his pardon of Nixon gave us four years of Carter...Which then gave us eight years of Reagan.

He was a very fine man.Yes he was. I share his hometown and alma mater so I do have a bias though. Still, I remember when he spoke to a small political science class while I was at Michigan and explained the Nixon pardon. I have never forgotten his genuine goodness and love of country.

President Jerry Ford worked with Peter Paul in support of his efforts to make California the leading state in the three year Bicentennial of the US Constitution and Bill of Rights.
