The first KING to be president.
He was born Lesley King and had his name changed when he was adopted.
A bit of trivia... I don't think he ever was formally adopted by his stepfather, Gerald R. Ford, Sr. His birth father abandoned the family (though he did resurface briefly later) and President Ford always considered the senior Ford his true father. When he was 21, President Ford did have his name legally changed to Gerald R. Ford, but there was not a legal adoption in the sense we use the term now. The courage shown by his mother at the time of his birth was astonishing. I guess her son inherited a lot of her strength of mind and purpose. I think in many ways, President Ford exemplified the word "gentleman."
