A bit of trivia... I don't think he ever was formally adopted by his stepfather, Gerald R. Ford, Sr. His birth father abandoned the family (though he did resurface briefly later) and President Ford always considered the senior Ford his true father. When he was 21, President Ford did have his name legally changed to Gerald R. Ford, but there was not a legal adoption in the sense we use the term now. The courage shown by his mother at the time of his birth was astonishing. I guess her son inherited a lot of her strength of mind and purpose. I think in many ways, President Ford exemplified the word "gentleman."
Indeed in particular I think Dick Cheney will be upset I am sure about Rummy but the VP keeps in touch with the Ford family and I believe visits when in the area.

As much as I do despise the BBC on certain things with State ocassions and special events they are still the best IMHO.
The 2 names I always think of when thinking of President Ford is Don Rumsfeld and Dick Cheney.

It really gets me like when people spell Dick Cheney as Dick Chaney I often wonder if they are making some kind of sublime point - what not sure but there are some people who think that certain names should always be spelled the same way.
It is one of my favourite there are few in the series but I think that is my favourite.
