Just Announced on Fox
GREAT pictures!
Thank you for being such a kind man.
God bless you.
;-)
Through it all he maintained his dignity and honor.
Rest in peace, sir.
RIP, President Ford.
A bit of trivia... I don't think he ever was formally adopted by his stepfather, Gerald R. Ford, Sr. His birth father abandoned the family (though he did resurface briefly later) and President Ford always considered the senior Ford his true father. When he was 21, President Ford did have his name legally changed to Gerald R. Ford, but there was not a legal adoption in the sense we use the term now. The courage shown by his mother at the time of his birth was astonishing. I guess her son inherited a lot of her strength of mind and purpose. I think in many ways, President Ford exemplified the word "gentleman."
Indeed in particular I think Dick Cheney will be upset I am sure about Rummy but the VP keeps in touch with the Ford family and I believe visits when in the area.
RIP, Mr. President.
As much as I do despise the BBC on certain things with State ocassions and special events they are still the best IMHO.
The 2 names I always think of when thinking of President Ford is Don Rumsfeld and Dick Cheney.
Gerald R. Ford dead at 93S D Union ^ | 27 DEC 2006 | Finlay Lewis 0350-12-27-2006 With his golden retriever, Liberty, at his side, President Ford worked in the Oval Office on Nov. 7, 1974, a few months after taking office upon Richard Nixon's resignation. Mr. Ford, the only U.S. president never elected on a national ticket, led the nation through a time marked by scandal and war. WASHINGTON Former President Gerald Rudolph Ford, who led the country out of the Watergate era but lost his own bid for election after pardoning President Nixon, died yesterday. He was 93. My family joins me in sharing the difficult news that Gerald Ford, our beloved husband,...
Ford was among most athletic presidents
St. Paul Pioneer Press ^ | 12/27/06 | JAMES PRICHARD His deliberate manner of speaking, some highly publicized mishaps and a recurring Chevy Chase bit in the early days of "Saturday Night Live" helped advance the notion that Gerald R. Ford was a bit of a bumbling stumbler. In fact, Ford was one of the nation's fittest and most athletic presidents. Ford, who has died at age 93, played center on the University of Michigan football team, where he was a three-year letter winner. His teams enjoyed consecutive undefeated, national championship seasons in 1932 and 1933. He was the Wolverines' most valuable player in 1934 and, on Jan. 1, 1935,...
Years of Renewal | 1999 | Henry Kissinger
Henry Kissinger's views of Gerald Ford from his book "Years of Renewal". "With Ford, what one saw was what one got. Providence smiled on Americans when - seemingly by happenstance - it brought forward a president who embodied our nation's deepest and simplest values." Kissinger's comparison betweem todays politicians and Ford leads one to believe that he believed that Ford was a leader in heroic mold. "The modern politician is less interested in being a hero than a superstar," he wrote. "Heroes walk alone; stars derive their status from approbation. Heroes are defined by inner values, stars by consensus. When...
Ladies and gentlemen: I have come to a decision which I felt I should tell you and all of my fellow American citizens, as soon as I was certain in my own mind and in my own conscience that it is the right thing to do. I have learned already in this office that the difficult decisions always come to this desk. I must admit that many of them do not look at all the same as the hypothetical questions that I have answered freely and perhaps too fast on previous occasions. My customary policy is to try and get...
President and Mrs. Bush Saddened by Passing of Former President Ford
White House ^ | December 26, 2006 | President George W. Bush
Laura and I are greatly saddened by the passing of former President Gerald R. Ford. President Ford was a great American who gave many years of dedicated service to our country. On August 9, 1974, after a long career in the House of Representatives and service as Vice President, he assumed the Presidency in an hour of national turmoil and division. With his quiet integrity, common sense, and kind instincts, President Ford helped heal our land and restore public confidence in the Presidency. The American people will always admire Gerald Ford's devotion to duty, his personal character, and the honorable...

LOS ANGELES - Gerald R. Ford, who picked up the pieces of Richard Nixon's scandal-shattered White House as the 38th and only unelected president in America's history, has died, his wife, Betty, said Tuesday. He was 93. "My family joins me in sharing the difficult news that Gerald Ford, our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather has passed away at 93 years of age," Mrs. Ford said in a brief statement issued from her husband's office in Rancho Mirage. "His life was filled with love of God, his family and his country." The statement did not say where Ford...
"God hold him. He was a good, honest man....JJ61"
Yes he was and they're scarce on the ground.
Rest in peace, sir.
It really gets me like when people spell Dick Cheney as Dick Chaney I often wonder if they are making some kind of sublime point - what not sure but there are some people who think that certain names should always be spelled the same way.
It is one of my favourite there are few in the series but I think that is my favourite.
Well worth reminder
