LONG BEACH, Calif. - Capital murder and hate-crime charges were filed Tuesday against an alleged member of a Latino gang in the fatal shooting of a black teenage girl, Los Angeles County prosecutors said.
Ernesto Alcarez, 20, was charged with one count of premeditated murder and six counts of attempted premeditated murder, with the special circumstances of murder to further a gang and murder based on race, the district attorney's office said.
Alcarez, jailed without bail, was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in Long Beach Superior Court but the proceeding was postponed to Jan. 8.
Prosecutors have not decided whether to seek the death penalty if the case results in a conviction.
Cheryl Greene, 14, was fatally shot Dec. 15 in the Harbor Gateway section of Los Angeles. A district attorney's office statement said gang members, without provocation, allegedly opened fire on the teenager and a group of her friends. Three of the friends received non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and three others were not hit.
That's what death penalty was intended for.
he should go to jail,no question, but "murder based on race" is ridiculous. i can't beleive it's even a charge. if all races are equal, how come you receive more jail time for killing one than the other?

I used to live in San Diego (in another life I was a Navy Wife) and then I came to my senses and moved back to the Midwest. ;)
My SIL and I visited a few years ago because we wanted to go hiking in the desert, and there were some flower farms we wanted to check out for our business. We were driving north on Highway 1 from San Diego, enjoying the sights, etc.
We got to Long Beach and I told her...this is where we turn back and you can thank me later for saving your life, LOL!

Ever been to Long Beach? It isn't in Lost Angeles. It is in Long Beach.
Like any medium sized city, it has bad areas. It also has rich waterfront mansions.
People of all colors. Interesting town. Big VA hospital, big state university.

Saw mention of these charges on TV news today; also, the dead body of a woman was found in a Long Beach alley today. No description or ID yet.
The Latino on black crime wave is well known: it's in the schools, the jails, the prisons, the streets. About as far as our "representatives" care, it is a matter of keeping themselves and their families out of harm's way. That's about it.
The crime wave is really Latino on non-Latino, much as the jihad is muslim on non-muslim. Both looking for dominance.
