I'm doing something I've not done in a long time.......placing my faith in the Pope.
I hope Benedict stands strong.
This type of "reasonable" request if granted or not is going to start becoming the norm, time to set a precident......and tell them to go Pound Sand.

Sure! When can I, an infidel, even visit Mecca or Medina? I hope Pope Benedict answers them forcefully and in the negative.

"What we wanted was not to take over that holy place, but to create in it, together with you and other faiths, an ecumenical space unique in the world which would have been of great significance in bringing peace to humanity." I wonder if this group would be willing to support such an ecumenical space in the church on Cyprus that had been converted to a Mosque after Turkey invaded in 1973.
I wont hold my breath.

Islam has absolutely nothing to offer Western Civilization. They have no technology, no humanity and no civilization. What's the point in accomodating people who spend the better part of each day bumping their heads on the ground and forcing their women to retreat into the concealment of a bundle of rags known as a burka. We of the Christian and Jewish faiths do not have a reputation for beheading people and then claiming that it was the will of our diety.
No Western nation should strive to accomodate these murderous savages!!

Spanish Muslims have written to the Vatican to demand the right to worship at Cordoba Cathedral.Muslims already have the right to worship at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass at the cathedral.

Deal?

Well, while we at it...how about demanding that the moslems tear down the mosque they built upon the Holy Temple in Jerusalem?
That was a Holy place of the Hebrews for centuries before there ever was an Islam.
They purposely built their mosque on top of the Temple and even now when Jews come to the wall below to pray the moslems throw stones at them.
You want to pray in a church? Fine....turn Christian.

The pope should tell them no. The Christians recaptured their land after the Islamic invasion. Muslims captured and destroyed over 30,000 Christian churches from Turkey to Morocco. Muslims never cede access back to Christians after stealing or destroying a Christian church. There is no reason for the pope to permit them any access for "Islamic" worship.

Sure, Just as they allowed the Pope to worship at the Church in Turkey. When Muslims learn to treat other religions with equality, then we will treat them in the same way.

No thanks...they're not welcome in our Cathedrals.
If they want to worship their shiny black rock, they can do it somewhere else...like in a bathroom...where the koran deposit units are located.

How many former churches and cathedrals in the Middle east were converted to mosques?

"The group said in their letter: "What we wanted was not to take over that holy place, but to create in it, together with you and other faiths, an ecumenical space unique in the world which would have been of great significance in bringing peace to humanity." Christianity is diametrically opposed to the teachings of islam, and the notion that islamics think they have some right to use a Catholic Church as a mosque is an abominable display of gall. Islam is like a cancer, it can never exist where Christianity is without infecting its surroundings with evil.

The Roman Catholic cathedral had originally been a mosque but was converted into a cathedral in the 13th century.
The mosque itself was built on the site of the earlier cathedral of St Vincent which was demolished by Cordoba's Muslim rulers following the Islamic invasion and occupation of parts of southern Spain in the eight (sic) century. Typical Muslim hypocrisy the world over: It should be shared/returned to us, because you took it from us, after we built it on the ruins of your cathedral/church/temple. How DARE you take it back, and deny us our rightful booty?
For prime examples, see entries on: Jerusalem; Constantinople Istanbul; Kashmir....

So when Muslims were ruling Spain they did not allow Christians to use this place?
