We (FR people) didn't turn it over. Except for Dane and Beans and a few others, there was no strong support for illegals at FR.

If it makes you feel better that free republic isn't responsible than knock yourself out. I am referring to conservative republican Americans who wouldn't return republicans to power because they were teaching them a lesson. And yes many freepers are in that number. The result is a democratic congress ready to destroy the country, starting with immigration policy and ending with Iraq and the war on Islam. We have ourselves to thank for this my friend.

who wouldn't return republicans to power because

But you have to get their attention some how.

The GOP has been deaf to the conservative base.

If you vote for the same (GOP), you are only going to get more of the same.

The key is for the House. Do the Dems want to retain it? If the House Dems pass amnesty, they will be out of power in 08. They know that. They may not be as stupid as the Pubbies seem to be. Some House Dems have already indicated that amnesty is NOT a done-deal, even though GW hopes it is.

Your defination of republican and theirs is probable different. Because RINO's have turned this party into a laughing stock we got what "we" deserved. BTW... how many years has "R"'s held the control? Only when they knew they were about to be thrown out on their tiny shiny hineys did they ever attempt to do anything about the border.

Bush and many other Republicans have the same views as most democrats when it comes to illegal immigration. Bush would give every illegal immigrant amnesty if he could do it without taking any heat. Bush is not any better than democrats when it comes to the biggest problem facing this country. I will never vote for anyone who doesn't take illegal immigration serious. The nation will be destroyed no matter what if the immigration problem isn't solved.

Let me guess. You blame conservative's for Bubba's win in 92 as well. Its NEVER the GOP's fault that their crummy candidate disgusted the base. Its those idiot conservatives. Don't they know the RNC owns their votes?? (sarcasm off)

I don't know how you voted on November 7th, but I was smart enough not to vote for anything that started with a D, I, C, etc... they were all R's.

. . . you state: We have ourselves to thank for this my friend

The RINOs that run the Senate (or used to) and the President were told by the rank-and-file voters (Republican and Reagan Democrats) "don't go there" on this immigration nonsense. They (Bush, Rove, Mehlman, McCain, Flake, etc.) told those voters to go to hell.

Your finger is pointing the wrong way, my friend. Blame those clowns, the Republican elites, and those who supported them just because they said they were Republican for the predicament they find themselves in.

These elites love having these illegals do the lawns in their gated communities on the cheap. Their children and grandchildren will be doing the lawns of the illegals grandchildren, after they reach the working majority (cf. Los Angeles) and control the economy and turn America into a third world Venezuela, Mexico or Argentina, with like welfare and corruption.

I really believe their weren't that many FReepers who didn't vote.

Bush has been doing everything possible to alienate the Reagan Democrats for the past two years. Many of the Reagan Democrats either voted Democratic or stayed home in 2006.

I disagree with your premise, but regardless, it's apparent that the GOP didn't learn the lesson.

The GOP-bots here seem to believe that the GOP is entitled to the votes of the conservatives, because the GOP claims to be conservative. After the last six years, it's obvious that the GOP and Bush were lying and that "compassionate conservative" is nothing but a cute campaign slogan for big-government, big-spending, pork-feeding cabal that only cares about taking care of their big campaign contributors. Do you honestly believe that the GOP deserves the conservative vote after they have openly betrayed the trust of those conservatives and their votes?

The fact that Bush and company are supporting this bill is a clear indication that they don't give a tinker's dam about the voters or the future of the country. If the Republicans want the votes of the conservatives, then support, vote for, and implement the things that conservative voters care about.

I predict that it will be a long time before the conservatives will ever again trust what Republican candidates say that they're going to do when elected. Trust is a funny thing--it takes a lot to create it in the voters, but it is very easy to lose it. Our GOP leaders in Congress have destroyed that trust. And you honestly believe that they deserve our vote?
