WASHINGTON, Dec. 25 Counting on the support of the new Democratic majority in Congress, Democratic lawmakers and their Republican allies are working on measures that could place millions of illegal immigrants on a more direct path to citizenship than would a bill that the Senate passed in the spring.
The lawmakers are considering abandoning a requirement in the Senate bill that would compel several million illegal immigrants to leave the United States before becoming eligible to apply for citizenship.
The lawmakers are also considering denying financing for 700 miles of fencing along the border with Mexico, a law championed by Republicans that passed with significant Democratic support.

We (FR people) didn't turn it over. Except for Dane and Beans and a few others, there was no strong support for illegals at FR.
Thanks, sleuth. I saw this. Didn't even want to think much about this. We know lots of what's in that "comprehensive" plan and it sickens me.
Its starting already ,the giving away of America.
Whatever is passed, will the President veto it?
IMO he wont even think twice before signing it.
This could be the making of a permanent democrat majority. Millions of new voters who will depend on government assistance. The Republicans, who would support this are either crazy, or just paid for by big money contributors while being shortsighted as to where this will end. If this goes the wrong way it will be the end of our country as we know it.
My money would be on Jeff Sessions....the ONLY one who talks common sense.
We wouldn't retreat from terrorists and we damned sure better not retreat from democrats.
"So why the death wish among Bush,Rove and cronies?"
See my post 19: I don't think is a death wish, it is with full awareness that they and their families will be fine no matter what, and in fact, they may be 'fatter' by actually doing what they are doing: selling out the US that so many died for.
We need to grasp the concept that the ideals most (I hope) of us believe in are not shared by people in power, be politics, business, or religion: they all dance to a totally different sheet of music.
Being illegally in this country should be grounds for never gaining citizenship, but instead so far it has brought forth perks and a sense of entitlement.
Yeppers...it is hard to forget that wonderful dissection that Jeff Sessions did of that bill.
I hope that Sessions, Kyl, Cornyn, Coburn, and any of the other GOP that have BRAINS will do something..but, unfortunately, they really ARE the minority now.
So its more a case of class elitism than loss of political power, the theory being that even if the Dems take over Washington lock, stock and barrell the Bushes,Mc Cains and Brownbacks of the world will still live in luxury with cheap immigrant labor abounding for their friends in high places.
"Being illegally in this country should be grounds for never gaining citizenship, but instead so far it has brought forth perks and a sense of entitlement."
Can't say that any better!!! It is what we are living, sadly.
The House Republicans should have compromised when they had a chance. They have only themselves to blame.
I hope it costs them dearly in 3008.
"So its more a case of class elitism than loss of political power..."
Mostly, but is deeper than 'cheap labor' as with the wealth they have/get, cheap labor is irrelevant.
Most politicians/elitists have no clue what is like to actually work for a living! And in all reality, if you (not personally you), your family and your close friends have all they need/want, and enough stashed away in 'safe' liquid assets (really safe as the elite knows), why worry about a $200 a week lawn bill, or a $500 one?
Jim Inhofe was outspoken about this before Sessions and wrote the best immigration bill that came out of the house or senate. Not one other senator would sign on to it. I hope Sessions stands his ground, he got the senate bill shot down.
You got to admit, this open border minority has cajones the size of sombreros to push through something even worse than the last senate bill. The "DEVIL" will be in the details of that bugger, you can bet.
Feliz Navidad, ya'll.
Hopefully it's the start of a conservative revolution!
Make RINO's extinct!
Well I hope "they" are happy for teaching the repubs a lesson and not voting or voting 3rd party.
Elections have consequences and pro immigration is one of them. Maybe "they" will learn before 2008 but i doubt it
Yeah,I hear you.The Bushes,Kennedys,Clintons,Obamas and Pelosis of the world have never had to work at honest hard labor in their lives.
There seems to be this unholy alliance between wealthy Republican"conservatives"and their liberal Dem kindred to make this country a Third World nation.
