I considered making Paul Krugman's column, "Helping the Poor, the British Way", my subject of this Christmas Day. I even had a snappy headline sussed out: "Let It Snow Socialism". But when it comes to using the message of the day to berate the United States, Krugman can't hold a Christmas candle to James Carroll of the Boston Globe.
Krugman took a glancing shot: "Its the season for charitable giving. And far too many Americans, particularly children, need that charity."
Penny-ante pessimism, Paul. In contrast, in his column, Carroll - a former Roman Catholic priest - condemns the United States in explicitly religious terms:

Ping and Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas and may the New Year be as productive for you as 2006 was. I have greatly enjoyed your fine work during the past year, and I eagerly look forward to more. As always, I appreciate the pings.
And have no fear - - these two bitter, malcontent socialist losers, Krugman and Carroll, are even smaller and more irrelevant at this time of year than they are the rest of the year. I flick them from my shoulder like gnats.
Carroll's father was an Air Force general who served as the Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency.
Carroll's a POS.
Jesus is the King of Kings. Therefore he has already established his kingdom, and is in fact our Lord. He isn't coming back to restore a kingdom that he is already Lord over.
Otherwise we couldn't call him king of anything.
John the Baptist also stated that "the kingdom of heaven is AT HAND." Mk. 1:14-15.
-Jesus said the same in Lk. 10:9.
- Lk. 11:20, expresses that "the kingdom of God (is) come upon you" when Christ was casting out demons.
-"know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh. Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all things be accomplished." Lk. 21:31-32 and everything he said WAS accomplished in that generation, including the destruction of Israel by the Romans.
-Mt. 10:23, Jesus speaks to His disciples saying, "Ye shall not have gone through the cities of Israel till the Son of man be come." Mk. 9:1 "There are some here of them that stand by who shall in no ways taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God come with power."
-This was essentially repeated in Acts 1:6-7 "Lord, dost thou at this time restore the kingdom to Israel? And He said unto them, It is not for you to know times or seasons, which the Father hath set within His own authority. But ye shall receive power when the Holy Spirit is come upon you." Clearly, the coming of the kingdom was at the Pentecost, when the Holly spirit came upon the apostles.
-Premilleniumism denies Christ's present kingship. We see above passages which looked FORWARD to the immanent establishment of Christ's kingdom before Pentecost. AFTER Pentecost, the kingdom is spoken of as being established...NOT awaiting some future establishment.
-Pilate asked Jesus if He was King of the Jews and He answered affirmatively, Lk. 23:3. He IS (not WILL BE) indeed, "King of Kings and Lord of Lords! (I Tim. 6:15). How can a King be a King NOW without having a KINGDOM NOW?
20:7. And when the thousand years shall be finished, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison and shall go forth and seduce the nations which are over the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog: and shall gather them together to battle, the number of whom is as the sand of the sea.
"Lord, you yourself have proclaimed that this place will be destroyed, that no one will live here ever again, neither man nor beast, but that it will remain desolate forever." (Jer.51:62).
"You must not love this passing world or anything that is in the world. The love of the Father cannot be in any man who loves the world...because the world, with all it craves for, is coming to an end..." (1 Jn.2:15-17).
And he comes AGAIN to judge and take those with him to a new jerusalem in a NEW world. in a NEW heaven.
"After I have gone and prepared you a place, I shall return to take you with me..." (Jn.14:3).
"I know quite well that when I have gone, fierce wolves will invade you and will have no mercy on the flock. Even from your own ranks there will be men coming forward with a travesty of the truth on their lips to induce the disciples to follow them. So be on your guard..." (Acts 20:29-30).
"On the day of the anger of God, in the fire of his jealousy, all the earth will be consumed. For he means to destroy, yes, to make an end of all the inhabitants of the earth." (Zeph.1:18).
My church helped out 160 needy families this Christmas, with clothes, food, toys, and other supplies. All the liberals do is whine and take your money.
Thanks, Lancey - and good wishes for 2007 for you.
Hi M1. Deployment permitting, you might want to give NB another try. Our editors have done a pretty good job of eliminating the trolls. Hope to see you over there.
