Carter's about-face betrays Jews, Christians ( Jimmy )
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution ^ | 12/22/06 | MEL KONNER

Posted on 12/22/2006 1:38:54 PM PST by george76

We are in that season when Jews celebrate one of their few successful rebellions against oppression. Christians celebrate the birth of the Prince of Peace.

How ironic, then, that Jewish-Americans are embroiled in a grim struggle against a Christian former president who is tainting our holiday joy.

I don't recognize Carter any more.

I am afraid of him now, for myself and for my children.

He has not just turned his back on the balance and fairness that all peacemaking depends on.

He has become a spokesman for the enemies of my people.

He has become an apologist for terrorists.

At this holiday season, Jews remember a time when our existence was threatened in our homeland; it is threatened again now...

Carter hates the wall their leaders have built to protect their children. I hate it too, and so do most Israelis. But the simple fact, disputed by no one, is that it has saved hundreds of innocent Jewish lives. It will come down when our enemies give up terror and acknowledge our right to live as a free people in our homeland.

Carter calls the Hamas leaders men of peace, a claim that flies in the face of every known reality. He wants Israel to back down unilaterally, to believe the promises of people who are its sworn enemy.

Israel withdrew from Gaza just last year, removing Jewish settlers by force. The result was relentless rocket attacks and the killing and kidnapping of Jewish soldiers within Israel.

I have read with shock and sadness Carter's biased, harmful book "Palestine: Peace not Apartheid."

It’s the Republicans and the rightwing Christian fanatics who support them that have given the Israelis the ‘green light’ for the genocidal extermination of the innocents who stand in the way of their quest for world domination.”

It's always sad when an ex POTUS is losing his mind.

At least Ronald Reagan and now Gerald Ford has the decency to know when they no longer should be a public figures.

Carter has jumped the shark

Caater is on the take. He and his foundation are supported by Arab states and financiers. He's essentially sold out. He is honorless!

Jimma has always misrepresented his role in the Egypt-Israel settlement: he wanted an international alliance including the USSR to impose a peace. Sadat
wanted out from under the Soviet umbrella and so he made the first move. He got what he wanted and froze out the Soviets--and to a great extent--the USA.

The fact is that Jimmy has always betrayed America's friends and allies. It's little wonder that he's turned so openly on the Israelis. Jimmy always was a pontificating apologist for bullies and scum. Carter never met an enemy of America that he didn't like, and he never met an ally of America whom he approved of.

are you saying that somehow ex-presidents who are liberal democrats are necessarily going to have less ridiculous views than other liberal democrats? just because he should know better -- as anyone who has even a passing familiarity with the news should -- doesn't make him an anti-semite. we should be consistent across the board in decrying flippant and all-too-easy charges of bigotry (rather than just plain idiocy, which is common enough).

Actually, yes I am.

I would expect an ex POTUS to have grown past extreme partisan as having been leader of the greatest country on the planet.

I would also expect an ex POTUS to also have been privy to information most liberal democrats would not have to make good decisions for the country as a whole.

Jimmuh Carter have prove once again he is either mentally no longer capable or is an anti semitic
