Carter's about-face betrays Jews, Christians ( Jimmy )
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution ^ | 12/22/06 | MEL KONNER

Posted on 12/22/2006 1:38:54 PM PST by george76

We are in that season when Jews celebrate one of their few successful rebellions against oppression. Christians celebrate the birth of the Prince of Peace.

How ironic, then, that Jewish-Americans are embroiled in a grim struggle against a Christian former president who is tainting our holiday joy.

I don't recognize Carter any more.

I am afraid of him now, for myself and for my children.

He has not just turned his back on the balance and fairness that all peacemaking depends on.

He has become a spokesman for the enemies of my people.

He has become an apologist for terrorists.

At this holiday season, Jews remember a time when our existence was threatened in our homeland; it is threatened again now...

Carter hates the wall their leaders have built to protect their children. I hate it too, and so do most Israelis. But the simple fact, disputed by no one, is that it has saved hundreds of innocent Jewish lives. It will come down when our enemies give up terror and acknowledge our right to live as a free people in our homeland.

Carter calls the Hamas leaders men of peace, a claim that flies in the face of every known reality. He wants Israel to back down unilaterally, to believe the promises of people who are its sworn enemy.

Israel withdrew from Gaza just last year, removing Jewish settlers by force. The result was relentless rocket attacks and the killing and kidnapping of Jewish soldiers within Israel.

I have read with shock and sadness Carter's biased, harmful book "Palestine: Peace not Apartheid."

Today I was in Barnes&Noble at lunch. I saw Jimmah Cahtah's book in the current affairs section. Right behind it was a book, "The Chhanging Face of Anti-Semism". I picked up that book and placed it to the left of Carters.

Yes. He's still the same old Jimmuh he always was, but he crossed a line somewhere, and now he is going to be sent off to Siberia by the leftists. A fate richly deserved and too long delayed.

This guy is still probably voting for the Democrats. He probably thinks this Jimmy is a typical evangelical.

Obviously Jimmy is being ridiculous, but I don't think that's the same as anti-semitism. Crying racism whenever there's a political disagreement is annoying and embarrassing when it comes from American blacks and Latinos, and I don't think that's different when it's Jews.

Even the left wing is wondering...

Not sure why - opposition to the existence of Israel, under the guise of "anti-Zionism", has become a significant factor in the Left, both here and in Europe.

I read you the first time. It's senility. Rosalyn is probably pulling the strings, but she's probably going over to the far side by now.

Ummm, he always had been. Before he just was better at covering it up.

Yes, but liberals like to hide their true agenda better. Labling opponents as 'neocons' instead of 'the Irael Lobby' sound so much better. Carter over the top rhetoric just honestly represents the liberal viewpoint, and liberals can't afford to be honest.

Carter Attempts to Reassure Jews

Stunned by a firestorm of controversy over his new book--Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid—former President Carter wrote a letter to American Jews explaining his use of the term "apartheid. Carter said Christians, not Jews, are responsible for Israel’s murderous oppression of Palestinians.

“We know Jews are with us,” Carter said. “Ninety percent of them vote Democrat. It’s the Republicans and the rightwing Christian fanatics who support them that have given the Israelis the ‘green light’ for the genocidal extermination of the innocents who stand in the way of their quest for world domination.”

Carter's book follows the peace negotiations between the Israelis and Palestinians during his presidency in 1977-1980. He is critical of all players in not reaching a better accord, but he is especially critical of the Israelis. “It’s true that everyone ignored what I was trying to say,” Carter admitted. “The Palestinians are hotheads. But I expected the Jews to be reasonable. I mean, in America we’re implementing their agenda—you know, expansive government programs, high taxes, abortion, gay rights—why do they need another ‘homeland’ in the Middle East. It makes no sense.”

The book, funded in part by the Pakistani Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI), has been called "moronic" (Slate), "anti-historical" (The Washington Post), "laughable" (San Francisco Chronicle). Carter dismissed these critical reviews of his book and blamed a “rightwing dominated media” for casting a negative pall over both his book and his presidency.. “When the media is controlled by right-wingers and Jews, as it is in this country, it’s hard for a free thinker like me to get a fair hearing,” Carter complained. “They’re too eager to curry favor with Bush and the GOP now. In 1980, they carried the torch for Reagan, undermining one of the truly great presidencies this country has ever seen. Why, I kissed Arafat. Who else has done that?”

Carter refused a challenge from Harvard Professor Alan Dershowitz to debate his book. “Yes, I said my book was intended to stimulate debate.” Carter agreed. “But Dershowitz is a Jew. He is biased against my book’s thesis that Jews are the main obstacle to peace in the Middle East. There is no point in me debating him. I am willing to debate someone who is more open-minded on the subject.”

In related news, Rabbi Ahron Cohen who spoke at the “Holocaust denial” conference in Iran now says the millions who died in Nazi gas chambers may have deserved it. “The Nazis never would have succeeded if their victims did not deserve it,” Cohen said. “Perhaps Jews are a pestilential infestation as some of the learned gentlemen of the conference allege. Maybe we deserve to be wiped off the face of the Earth. After all, Israel is the underlying cause of strife and bloodshed in the Middle East. If all the Jews had been killed by Hitler, the cream of Muslim youth would not now have to sacrifice itself in suicide attacks to try to finish the job. So, it’s an open question. We shouldn’t be too quick or harsh in our judgment of men like Hitler or Ahmadinejad. We must respect their point of view.”

I've been wondering that since he kissed Brezhnev. I think Brezhnev was wondering, too.

Unfortunately a lot of Jewish voters are going to fall for the crocodile tears shed by leftists and democrats over Jimmy's supposed fall from grace. The fact is, in the eyes of many of these posers, his only sin is he was too obvious. They all agree with what he wrote, they just don't want to say it publicly. And the Jewish voters --- many of them --- are going to be fooled and surprised when the NEXT Jimmy Carter emerges, not from the ranks of the Republicans, but from the Democrats. Again. As Always.

Obviously Jimmy is being ridiculous,

No, Jimmuh isn't being ridiculous. Al Sharpton is ridiculous.

Jimmuh Carter is an ex - POTUS. He should know better, but doesn't.

That means he is really a anti semitic or simply lost his mind.

I think it's a little bit of both.
