Israel must interfere in PA crisis [Dumbest.Advice.Ever]

Israel must take action to strengthen moderate Palestinian camp

Ronny Shaked Published: 12.20.06, 12:15

Even the second attempt to enforce the ceasefire in the Territories will not resolve the internal Palestinian crisis that has crossed every red line in recent days.

At most, they will achieve a lull that would last a few days until the next wave of violence.

This chronic crisis runs deep; it is much more complex and entrenched. It is a struggle between two completely different disciplines; the nationalist school represented by Mahmoud Abbas, and the Islamic school represented by the ruling Hamas movement. The Palestinian arena is locked in a power struggle between the West and Islam. In such a situation a peaceful resolution is unlikely.

A resolution is unlikely because Hamas, as Haniyeh reiterated again Tuesday, will neither relinquish the regime nor its worldview. Abbas cannot hold early elections even though he would like to, because this would turn Gaza into another Somalia that is stricken with a futile war and total bedlam.

Internal Palestinian hatred is rising daily. To date, it is a turf war between organizations - a struggle emanating from below, involving gunmen eager for battle and leaderships that fear it may escalate into an all-out civil war. However, if one of the assassination attempts, which have been rampant in recent days, ends with the killing of a leader, Abbas or Haniyeh, it would indeed become an all-out war.

No law and no order

Even now the Palestinian Authority is falling apart, the government is not functioning and civil systems are on the verge of collapse. The health and educational systems are still holding up, but only because they are being assisted by international aid. There is no law and there is no order; there is complete anarchy.

Only a multinational force that would cease the mutual slaughter and prevent a humanitarian disaster could maintain a long enough lull in the fighting during which Abbas could implement his policies vis-à-vis Hamas, and perhaps even tip the scales in his favor.

However, if the international support given to Abbas does not turn into substantial aid, there's not much hope for long-term change.

The Israeli government will not be able to sit idly by for much longer. It will be incumbent upon it to take steps that would embolden the moderate Palestinian camp vis-à-vis the extremists. Otherwise, not only will the Palestinian public be endangered, but so will we.

Israel must take action to strengthen moderate Palestinian camp

First, let the two extremist factions kill each other off.

FRmail me to be added or removed from this Judaic/pro-Israel/Russian Jewry ping list.

Warning! This is a high-volume ping list.

"Moderate" meaning one that has either ran out of ammunition or doesn't have the guts to strap on a suicide vest.

It's much better the way it is. A stark demonstration of just how a real "Palestinian State" would be run.

Why do anything to stop this wonderful Morality Play from continuing?

the time to have acted against the Palestinian extremist camp was during those wonderful Oslo years, when Arafat did nothing and gradually lost control. the die was cast on this a long time ago. let them fight it out and give the Israelis a rest.

They're just saying that
because Israel isn't
interfering now.

When Israel starts
doing anything the press
will then denounce that.

Israel always
will get damned if they do and
damned if they do not.

When the world was badgering Israel to pull its troops out, I remember Israel was warning the world that when it pulled out their troops the Palestinians would descend into anarchy.

No one believed them.

Believe it now.

War is a cleansing human endeavor. The war must be fought and massive death must occur before there can be any glimmer of peace.

I find the whole exercise comical because neither side is able to actually fight a war. It seems the palis hide behind the a building and blindly fire around the corner. Some satisfaction is obtained by hearing and smelling the gun discharge, but little is accomplished. They never hit a real person. They never aim.

Whichever side Israel takes immediately loses support among the Palestinians. So the only way Israel could help the moderates is to support Hamas, which would hardly be believable.

Aiming for them is a religious/emotional concept, not a scientifically-based, or even military discipline.

They've been brainwashed to "aim" their children toward pizza parlors and busses, or into buildings or sea while piloting aircraft, as they chant the mantra of "Allahu Akbar!"

In addition to the (incredibly sick) community adulation they receive for having done so, they've been conditioned by financial subsidies from foreign governments and charities to maintain their delusions and "deaden" any pain they otherwise might have once felt.

One can only hope a time will come when they will turn their weapons into plowshares and pruning hooks, but if they ever learn to aim, it will be because the (hopefully dead) mullahs and "charities" will have stopped sending bullets, and they will have begun purchasing whatever ammunition they would have themselves, and making their own decisions with no expectation of remuneration, here or in an afterlife.

Only in killing each other off will there be a fitting end to the arrogant ayatollah-and-mullah's emphases on encouraging high birth rates, for the vanity of Islamists' world domination.

Indeed. This kind of conflict cannot go on without sufficient supply of 89 octane.
