Lawmaker won't apologize for 'Islamophobic' letter

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A Virginia congressman will not apologize for writing that without immigration reform "there will be many more Muslims elected to office demanding the use of the Quran," his spokesman said.

Republican Rep. Virgil Goode's letter to constituents also warns that without immigration reform "we will have many more Muslims in the United States."

Spokesman Linwood Duncan said Goode's letter was written in response to complaints his office received about Minnesota Rep.-elect Keith Ellison's request to be sworn in using the Quran.

Ellison is the first Muslim to be elected to Congress.

Goode's office released the letter to CNN Wednesday.

In it, Goode wrote, "When I raise my hand to take the oath on Swearing In Day, I will have the Bible in my other hand. I do not subscribe to using the Quran in any way.

"The Muslim representative from Minnesota was elected by the voters of that district and if American citizens don't wake up and adopt the Virgil Goode position on immigration there will likely be many more Muslims elected to office and demanding the use of the Quran.

"We need to stop illegal immigration totally and reduce legal immigration and end the diversity visas policy pushed hard by President Clinton and allowing many persons from the Middle East to come to this country.

As I remember, Goode switched parties right after he was first elected ten years ago.

Finally, someone in congress to be proud of for speaking his mind, and the truth.

He's going to get a lot of flack for this, so, emails supporting his comments, send them in, to his office and cnn.

No point in apologizing now, but he'll be a pariah in Congress and the GOP, and he'll probably be defeated by the Democrat at the next election.

I beg to differ with you. It's about time someone spoke with common sense and had some stones to tell the truth. We need more people like him.

I'm merely stating the political reality of his situation. He'll have trouble sponsoring legislation to benefit his district. The NRCC will cut off his funds, which is like cutting off his oxygen. The Dems will target him. This guy is toast.

I agree about the pariah part. The good ol' boys may love ol' Virgil in his district, but this guy's ignorance and intolerance is an embarrassment to the GOP. Ellison's a black liberal democrat who converted to Islam. So did a number of blacks long before 9/11. I don't recall reading that he supports Al-Qaeda or the "Islamicization" of America (what a concept!). If any grenades should be lobbed at him, they should be on the basis of his ultra-liberal politics -- not his religion. And as far as his swearing-in goes, as long as he swears to uphold the Constitution, that's all that matters to me.

Amen....Islam has made it clear that they want to destroy the west and Israel...CAIR has a hidden agenda, and it involves the use of Political Correctness.

Islam is using the very freedom they wish to destroy, to undermind the west and to destroy Israel. Our prisons are full of Islamic Converts....and thats not a good sign.

But, he did support Louis Farrakahan and all that entails.

Didn't he say that was when he was a college student, and he no longer feels that way? Reagan was once a Democrat, but I never held that against him . . . .

Have *any* muzzie clerics apologized for their inflammatory Friday sermons? I didn't think so. Same principle applies. Except Goode is correct.

I would like to point out to you that while not all Muslims are terrorists, all terrorists have been Muslim. There is nothing ignorant or intolerant about that FACT. You are more likely to find a Muslim terrorist cell hiding in a mosque rather than a church or synagogue. Christian churches in Virginia have been silenced from ringing deep melodious chords a few times a week by intolerant bigots in Reston, Vriginia, while a five times a day call to prayer over loudspeakers in Michigan were permitted. People are noticing things like that. Farrakan has been awfully quiet lately.

He definitely supports the Flying Imams and I'm pretty sure he was at the same "conference" with them.

Some people say the Imams were just praying quietly and meant no harm, but that contradicts everything said by the people (flight crew and passengers--including several Muslims) who were there and saw and heard them.

Yes, true he says he no longer feels that way, but unlike Reagan he did not change the basis for believing him. In my eyes.
