Peugeot have introduced a new 2.2 twin turbo HDi diesel engine to the 607 range. Using sequential twin parallel turbochargers, a world-first on a four-cylinder diesel car, the new diesel engine produces 170bhp. The price, excluding works, is E53,305. At low engine speeds, just a single turbocharger operates. It is then supported by a second turbocharger, which starts to operate in parallel between 2600-3200 rpm, according to the applied load and atmospheric conditions. Standard equipment on the new version includes includes metallic paint, laminated side windows, a JBL Hi Fi system, a six-disc CD auto-changer, electrically-adjustable front seats with memory and folding rear seats and rear parking sensors. Theres also a cornering stability control, cruise control and speed limiter, eight airbags, and bi-zone climate control. Windscreen wipers and headlamps are operated automatically and there's also motorised boot actuation. The new Peugeot 2.2 HDi twin turbo engine will be available on the 407 saloon range from January 2007, retailing from E40,505 ex works.

Twin-turbo diesel, ohhh - but what about gas mileage? Will it get even 5 miles per litre?

Voted as 2007 best car for rapid retreat award winner, guaranteed to whisk you out of harm's way in a flash. The cloud of diesel smoke left behind is a bonus.

French automaker Peugeot strengthens it's 607 line with the introduction of a new Euro 4 spec, 2.2 litre twin turbo-charged HDi diesel engine that produces 170 Hp at 4000 rpm and a maximum torque of 375 Nm -277 lb ft at only 1,500 rpm. Even more impressive though is the 607's extra urban consumption: 54.3 mpg (UK), 65.2 mpg (US) or 5,2 l/100 Km (Europe) !

I'm impressed that a diesel can make 4000rpm. Diesel is the future.

Looks like one of the biggest obstacles now is the nameplate.Just in the US, where Peugeots have a (perhaps justifiably) bad rap due to their poor entry into the U.S market.
Both Peugeot and Renault make good, solid cars. In fact, there are several Renaults that I believe you get in the States that are marketed with a Nissan nameplate for marketing reasons.
