The brunt of my misgivings about Rudy are the question of will he respect anti-gay civil union laws and anti-abortion laws in Red States and make no attempt to overturn them. Plus, I don't want to my tax dollars to pay for abortions.

---"THE REAGAN REVOLUTION IS DEAD"!!.---

Oh, but don't you realize that Reagan was just a lesser Rudy?

I mean Reagan was just a complete hands-off guy on issues like abortion, gay rights, and other social issues. Facts be damned, he really was don'tcha know?

I mean, the pro-partial-birth-abortion, second-Amendment eliminating, gay rights/marriage candidate is the REAL Reagan Conservative.

Haven't you been reading the Rudy-ophiles here?

Where do I begin. Its seems the only social conservatives or bust flip out over Rudy. Let's start with pro-homo. He's AGAINST gay marriage. Now as far as homos go, personally, I disagree with their life style but as long as they do what they do in the privacy of their own home I really don't care and nobody else should either, especially not the federal government. The POTUS doesn't have the power to stop people from being gay. And he surely shouldn't be interferring in people's private lives. So therefore voting on the basis of this issue doesn't make much sense. However, the President does have alot of power of issues that actually does affect our lives. Rudy is fiscally responible(he turned a NYC's deficit into a surplus), a tax cutter(he cut over 20 taxes as Mayor), conservative on domestic policies(he dropped 600,000 people off welfare and cleaned up the rampant crime as Mayor), supports strict constructionist judges, and is 100% perfect when it comes to his stance on the WOT and all other foreign policy which by the way is 100 times more important than worrying about what some gays people are doing, gay people that doesn't affect your life at all!!! With Rudy you are not getting a liberal, you are getting a man who is conservative on most issues, the issues where the president actually has major influence over and yes he is fairly liberal on a couple of social issues, issues that the president has very little influence over. Nowadays judges have the most influence on these issues and Rudy supports strict constructionist so that pretty well takes care of the social issues and will help us get these issues back to the states where they belong. So on the average he is fairly conservative and not a liberal and more importantly conservative on the issues where the President can make a difference. And most importantly he will continue Bush's work on the WOT and give us a great foreign policy. Finally, Rudy and McCain are, IMO, the only two Republicans that can win in 2008. So take your pick, Hillary, McCain, or Rudy. Sure, you can "choose" another Republican but he will lose to Hillary. Back to Rudy, If he's elected President and fights terrorist like he fought crime as Mayor can you imagine the results we will in the defining struggle of our generation, the fight against Islamic fascism. You know for a fact Hillary will surrender the terrorist and hand our foreign policy over to the UN and EU and poor Israel would be left out to dry. Rudy is extremely competetent and a great leader and there is nobody I want more as Commander in Chief. So you go ahead and worry about gays, people that don't affect your life at all. I'm going to worry about Islamic fascism, you know the people that want to kill us all, and vote for someone that will go after them. Lets review history. World War II ended in 1945. SEVEN years later in 1952 the most popular general of the war, Dwight Eisenhower, won in a landslide despite far right extremist unpragmatic Republicans not supporting him in the primaries. History always repeats itself.

It's just surface fodder, but you know how many voters judge on looks alone... I've already stated elsewhere in this thread any many others how Rudy isn't up to snuff (though neither are McCain or Romney). Personally, do you believe a Social liberal (policy Democrat), thrice-divorced candidate with personal judgment issues is going to be a stellar success in the general election, let alone a GOP primary ? We need to stop letting the media select our candidates, especially when their sole intent is to make sure we pick somebody that they can proceed to tear apart after the nomination. Why do you think they were so hot for McCain ? A few well-placed ads of that beautiful bean footage of "McInsane" on a tirade would ensure a rodent Presidency in '08... or Rudy in drag as Marilyn or Dr. Frank 'n Furter.

Uncle Miltie never ran for public office. You'll note that there aren't any pics of RR in drag.

I understand. But I don't think Rudy will try to interfer with states' rights. I hope and believe that would be the case. Now with Hillary, I know she wouldn't respect states at all.

The gist of my questions concern State's Rights. A very important issue for reducing the size of the federal govt.

Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeey.....back up! I am NOT looking for a PERFECT candidate! I'm not even looking for the SECOND COMING OF REAGAN.

My objection to McQueeg and Newtie are rational, well thought out, well considered, and cogent.

Out of the leading contenders, I'd go with Rudy as my first choice first and Romney as my second choice for the GOP presidential candidate; as things stand now.

McQueeg has the MSM behind him! He has angered a whole LOT of the GOP politicos and those behind the scenes as well as just average people. Those families of Nam POWs HATE him. He has a SWIFTBOAT type group, who WILL follow him around. And all of the old skeletons WILL be known by all.

Do you think that the MSM and others GOPers in the '08 primary will just ignore McCain-Fiengold, the KEATING 5 and all the rest? Think again.

America has had one, ONE bachelor president and that was more than 100 years ago, he was a lousy president, and he is now forgotten my most. Can you name him, without GOOGLING? I can. :-)

Although it's sad (but the irony is also somewhat comical at the same) the way that many are willing to move the Republican Party even further to the left just to elect Rudy.

Many are willing to not only dump the traditional base for moderates and independents to get him elected (I know, I know,,,they keep reminding us 'ad nauseum' that we are not longer needed or wanted) but the amazing part is that their disdain almost borders on contempt for the traditional conservative base.

It's really amazing the way that the party is being 'morphed' into something entirely different than it used to be---in such a relatively short period time,,,,for what many consider a political 'rock star'. Oh well, I wish them all well.

No thanks.....I would rather wait for a real man, one that believes in the USA Constitution.

No 2A = No vote from me.

I have other requirements, but the 2A is at the top of my list.

Wait til the RATS get 20 more seats in the House and 4 more Senate seats. (Makes me sick just thinking about).

if faced with hefy RAT margins in Congress, I suspect the big 3(Mitt, McCain, Rudy) would become bi-partisan, the Schwarzenegger way.

---"So take your pick, Hillary, McCain, or Rudy."---

Given those choices:

1.) Hold nose and vote McPain.
2.) Vote Third Party.
3.) Vote Hillary to save Conservative movement from elimination in GOP in favor of becoming new Libertarian Party.

Eight years ago, it was hard to imagine a universe where I would ever cast my vote for a Clinton. Rudy Giuliani would actually make me do that. Cut losses in 2008, start rebuilding.

Of course, who would've ever predicted the speed at which the Libertarian Republicans would want to purge the grassroots elements of the party after they already lived through those years (Dem Supermajorities on a regular basis).

I'll say it again: We Social/Moral/Cultural/Grassroots Conservatives are not going to just abandon all of our issues and become anti-gun Social Libertarians for the good of the GOP. We are loud and clear. Anoint Hillary at your own risk. We will not support Rudy Giuliani!

And if you post one more reply that is a 350 word sentence, you will be speaking into an echo chamber, as far as I'm concerned.

I do not understand the mindset of you Rosie O'Donnell Republicans: You have the opportunity to have a GOP base ENTIRELY united against a Hillary candidacy in 2008, and you choose the one candidate - the ONE candidate - who is unacceptable to an actual majority of the party according to polls such as those on Free Republic.

There is only one candidate who splits the party so, yet he's the one you want on the ticket.

I really don't get you folks.

The media likes popular individuals and Rudy is one. OK, lets pick some obscure 1% candidate that the media won't talk about and I can assure you that will be dancing to defeat comes election 2008.

And by the way, Rudy was divorced only once, and his first marriage ended in an annulment. So he had two previous wives, not 3. Just the facts. :-)

I'm a born and bred New Yorker....not someone raised 25 miles out of the city!

Like you, I lost people on 9/11, so you can climb down off that pedestal now. As a matter of fact, there is almost NOBODY I know, in real life, whether they live/d in N.Y.C. or not, who didn't have someone they knew murdered on that day.

I read the letter, which was where your link took me.

Claiming that Rudy Giulliani was at the Stonewall Bar, performing as a dancing female impersonator, in 1969, is THE most ridiculous, not to mention silly LIE, ever posted to FR, about Rudy, in the history of FR!

Just one wee question for you..............IF, as you claim, Rudy was not only dressed in female clothes and makeup, performing/dancing in that bar and fought cops, in 1969, hauled off to jail, booked, and tried, HOW did he get to be the New York DA ?
