COLUMBUS, Ohio - It was the sort of commonplace misbehavior that raises blood pressure across the nation's roads: kids, out after midnight, egging cars along a busy thoroughfare.
This time, though, the mischief turned deadly. The driver of a targeted gray Jeep barreled after the boys and someone inside pulled a gun, firing multiple shots that killed 14-year-old Danny Crawford.
Police are still seeking the gunman more than two weeks after Crawford's death. They have interviewed the Jeep's owner but aren't saying if that person is a suspect.

Which can ruin a car's paint job.
If the driver chased the kids, he acted in concert with the shooter and is as guilty as the shooter. They should just throw his sorry butt in jail and keep him there until he makes a deal.
PS. Egging cars is stupid. Real stupid.
PPS. I speak from experience on this one!
"My old mentor at Harding, Chancellor Merrymount, would have said the same. "
Your mentor is an idiot. Deadly force in response to vandalism is excessive, and not fitting of civilization. It is that type of attitude that will have guns taken from those of us who respect them.
Were you the egger or the eggee? :-)
True... but a nice public flogging would certainly be fitting.
Oscar Mayer bologna strips paint to the metal, way worse than egg or bird poop.
Any punk throws anything at my truck while I am driving, I will assume that he is trying to kill me and respond accordingly.
An egg-size rock through the windshield at highway speed is a deadly weapon.
A little excessiveness is needed for punks and I feel sorry for you not to see it to. Calling my Mentor an Idiot is same as calling Me one - didnt you Know???
"True... but a nice public flogging would certainly be fitting."
Ok, now we're in a range where punishment fits the crime. I'm all for that. And if it were my son doing the egging, I'd still be in favor of public flogging!
Never bring an egg to a gunfight
Trolling for two months. Not too shabby.
It's a crime against property to hit a vehicle with something that could cause upwards of thousands of dollars worth of damage. I have NO pity for the 'victim' here.
It is that type of attitude that will have guns taken from those of us who respect them.
Good luck when they try to take the guns. If people are willing to shoot against someone 'just' egging a car, they will certainly be willing to shoot people trying to take them.
And that's definitely more important than a human life.
Absolutely. It's no yolking matter.
Perhaps if the media would stop referring to such activities as "pranks", parents and teens would regard them as the serious crimes they are and they would happen less often.
Better the kid doing the crime gets killed, than some innocent driver or passenger in the egged vehicle or someone in a another vehicle or a pedestrian that an out-of-control egged car hits. Not that I'm endorsing the specific response that the occupant(s) of this vehicle took -- somehow I doubt they "knew their backstop" when they fired on the kids at night in a fit of anger, and they were as likely to cause an unintended death as the car-egging teens were.
From the article: ""We're just wondering why it happened to him and why would somebody even think to do that?" Hannah Pulse, 13, a friend, said of Crawford's slaying." Hannah ought to be rephrasing her question to "We're just wondering why would Danny even think to do that?"
"Calling my Mentor an Idiot is same as calling Me one - didnt you Know???"
Actually, technically it's not. But sorry for you not to see it. You may take it any way you care to, I can't control it.
It's a barbaric attitude that creates more problems than it solves. That type of problem solving skill is why the Neandertal is no longer around.
