Police say a wave of graffiti hit two north Charlotte apartment complexes Wednesday night.
The graffiti includes gang tags that investigators say contains a hidden message: a violent, notorious gang may be moving in.
The tags bear the name Sur 13, a violent Latin gang police say is responsible for robberies, break ins, and trafficking drugs.
By putting signs like that, they are trying to tell people that this is our area, stay away from it, Officer Rene Quiles said.
Two buildings at the Maple Run apartments, a fence, and the back of a building at the North Point apartments were all tagged by Sur 13.
This is an indication that we gonna have some gang members mark there territory, Quiles said.
One woman who lived at North Point, Alma, told us she's terrified that the gangs are active where she lives.
They rob, they commit many crimes, the woman said.
Police thought they had forced gangs out of both these apartment complexes.
Thats why they are so worried now, and so quick to make sure the graffiti comes down before it's followed by violence. You have another gang member and then they're going to cross over it, and put their mark in there, and the next thing you know, you gonna have fights in there, Quiles said.
The tags, after all, are all about messages: one from the gangs, and another from police.
We're not gonna stop until we find out who did all this, Quiles said.
Officer Quiles said late tonight that he has arrested one juvenile suspect for the tagging. He says one more arrest is possible.

This must've been uttered by a non-native speaker, because it sounds positively Schwarzeneggerian.
Are you questioning the benefits of diversity?

Ruining another great state. People think about it...North Carolina overrun with gang problems.!. They cannot be allowed to do to NC what theyve done to Kalifornia. There should be zero tolerance, a roundup and excavation from this country. We are so soft.
Those greedy landlords who whine about cities cracking down on renting to illegals should be held responsible for every crime committed by gangs in their areas. After crime victims sue for every dollar they have, they could shut down these cesspools that breed crime.
These vermin should be flogged and then deported.
Like wolf-packs pissing on trees, marking their territory. They should be hunted from helicopters, with high-powered rifles.
At least they only use spray paint!
Anyone taking bets on when the demonRATS and the enemedia declare a civil war in NC and advise we cut and run?
There should be zero tolerance, a roundup and excavation from this country
So what are you saying? We've got to dig them out or bury them?

I thought graffiti was all about art and self expression by downtrodden victims of racism and poverty. Liberals want us to celebrate graffiti, not prosecute those who create it.
Wait till these gang members start pushing the local folks. The locals will push back and HARD.Lots of places up in the woods to dispose of these creeps.
Well said officer....well spoken. You'll make sergeant in no time.
Cities need to do what they did on "The Shield"...checking every random youth for tatoos, and taking a photo of them and posting it in the precinct.
Apparently, the gang's malevolence is so irresistible that reporters lose the ability write sentences.
Criminals should be held responsible, not tax-paying property owners.
Must it always be the capitalist American's fault?
