Congress to double workload
Herald Sun ^ | 16 December 2006

US Democrats, who are set to take control of Congress next month, have outraged some of their colleagues by their decision to work five days a week, which will almost double their workload.

According to an announcement made by the next Democratic majority leader, Steny Hoyer, representatives will have to be present to vote Monday through Friday.

What's more, instead of waiting for the traditional State of the Union address by the president at the end of January to begin legislative work, the House of Representatives and the Senate will put themselves to work as early as January 4.

A Republican member of Congress immediately complained.

“Marriages suffer. The Democrats couldn't care less about families – that's what this says,” Congressman Jack Kingston told The Washington Post.

Since then, he has been the subject of ridicule.

“My wife just returned from a yearlong tour in Iraq,” wrote a reader of The Post. “Our marriage and family – we have two sons, ages two and three and a half – are stronger than ever.”

After gaining control of Congress by untiringly lambasting the “culture corruption” introduced by the Republican Party, Democrats have become impatient to display their determination to uphold “ethics.”

Democrats want people to work? Thats funny, I thought since they won this year I won't have to!

I'm really curious who the Republican who made that comment is too.

This is all about looking like they're getting down to the people's business. Truth is, whatever extra time they actually log beyond posturing and photo ops will be spent ramming as much of their socialist agenda down our throats as possible - part of which will be measures to ensure they cannot possibly be defeated in the '08 cycle.

We would all be a lot better off if they would halve the workload instead of doubling it!!!

A second thought...

If these lying RAT so-and-so's want to convince the people that they are serious about doing something worthwhile, why not cut their salaries in half and eliminate their perks? After all, the appearance of increased work is always the prelude for increasing pay.

I'd just as soon they went home and stayed there. They would cause less harm that way.

Can anyone here even imagine having to put in 5 days in a row?/s

Having said that I agree that the more they're there, the more freedom and money Americans will lose.

The Congress will probably introduce a bill such as to eliminate the Electoral College, increase vote fraud, and the like to ensure that the Democratic Majority will became permanent.

Then they'll pass laws to abolish a person's right to bear arms.

All this will be gradual so that the American people would not notice.

The Left learned their lessons from the past's failure and they will not rush too quickly this time.

IIRC, the real reason they are going to be 'working more' is to shorten the lenght of any 'recess' to make it difficult for Dubya to make any 'recess appointments'.

It will take lots of legislation to overturn the Constitution and double your taxes in the same session. They might even have to leave Bush Bashing to the Press.

I, for one, do not want representatives to spend all their time in Washington D.C. They need to be back in their districts where they can cause less harm.

You just nailed it. This is horrible news. The less these crooks are in town, the better for this nation.

Under normal circumstances, I would heartily agree with your sentiments.

However, I want the Democrats in DC 24/7, so they can wear out their welcome faster.
