White House Denounces Visits to Syria by US Legislators
Voice of America ^ | December 15, 2006 | Scott Stearns

Posted on 12/15/2006 1:29:21 PM PST by IntelliQuark

The White House says it is inappropriate for members of Congress to meet privately with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. VOA White House correspondent Scott Stearns reports, one senator visited Damascus earlier this week, and several others are planning visits to the Syrian capital.

White House spokesman Tony Snow criticized Florida Senator Bill Nelson for meeting with President Assad Wednesday, saying it is neither helpful nor appropriate.

"The point is that, even lending a further specter of legitimacy to that government undermines the cause of democracy in the region," said Mr. Snow. "The Syrians have been adventurous and meddlesome in Iraq, and in Lebanon, and working against the causes of democracy in both of those countries."

Applying the Logan act to Senators is difficult.
Congress Declares war and pays for the military. Treaties are made with the advice and consent of the Senate. Kerry, Nelson and the other Dhimmicrats can claim that they are merely following the duty.

Arrest them on federal charges for violating their constitutional protocols.

>>The Senators are defying and undermining the official US policy and are giving aid and comfort to our enemies.<<

The senators are getting in some extra free mileage before the next congress convenes, some are taking their LAST such "fact-finding" mission before forced retirement, and all of them are doing what they do best -- wasting our money.

"Katherine Harris might have stood a chance if she had received support from the Bush family."

Exactly right. Like a train wreck, one has to take reasonable action to prevent them. In this case, it is the obvious violation of the Rules of the Republican Party: Do everything to insure all your candidates get elected. One other Rule: Make sure Democrats DO NOT GET ELECTED.

Good evening.
"Why is it that 'moderate' dems like Nelson always seem to pull this stuff a month AFTER they get re-elected?"

Why is it that anyone still believes in 'moderate' DemocRATs in the 21st century?

Why won't they be prosecuted under the Logan Act they are openly violating?

And in a related story, Attorney General Gonzales is still trying to find his ass with both hands.

What good does "denouncing" do? Arrest the freaks and send them to Gitmo. (okay, that's too kind...how about Leavenworth?)

I fear this is a case of promoting beyond a person's capability... same thing we almost had happen with Harriet Miers.

What if their airplane just quietly disappeared and they ended up at Club Gitmo (without the fanfare).... would the GOP be back in charge?

Two words....Logan Act
Wouldn't it be nice if we had an Administration (and Party) who wasn't afraid to act?

Yes it would! I am tired of seeing these rats doing this and getting away with it! Wish we citizens could bring a class action lawsuit against them for violation of the Logan Act!

I'm glad you asked the question. I like to get that information front and center as often as possible.

Rockefeller should have been punished severely for his act of treason.

I don't understand something here? If the state dept (an arm of the administration) gives approval for these goofballs to travel to Syria, how can the same administration say that the trip is 'inappropriate'?????
