Pittsburgh Steelers' linebacker Joey Porter was fined $10,000 by the NFL on Thursday for a gay slur he made towards Cleveland Browns' tight end Kellen Winslow after the game on Thursday.
During the game, Winslow was flagged for a personal foul for hitting Steelers linebacker James Farrior after a play. In a post-game interview, Porter referred to Winslow with a derogatory word used to describe homosexuals.
On Tuesday, Porter apologized, saying he didn't intend to offend anyone but Winslow.
"I guess, how we used that word freely, me using it growing up, I didn't think anything of it," Porter said on Tuesday. "I apologize to anyone I offended. I didn't mean to offend nobody but Kellen Winslow."
This was Porter's second fine of the season. During a game against the Atlanta Falcons in October, Porter was fined $15,000 for comments he made to an official.
There is no word on whether Porter will appeal the fine.

Good Idea.
I'll do the same. That is a pretty leading question to ask, to say the least.

See post # 35 for a picture of his WIFE.
It looks like he pitched, and now he's smiling.

She's nice.

In a post-game interview
With a microphone stuck in your face you should be on your best behavior. I'm in agreement with the fine but it should be for public stupidity not for the word he used.
I saw Tiki Barber interviewed immediately after his game this past weekend and the guy was very impressive. He's a very likeable guy and definitely has a career in broadcasting after football.......I guess its too much to expect other athletes to conduct themselves on camera like he did.

I'm assuming he called him a fag?Which should come as no surprise in a game that starts play with one guy snuggling his hands into the butt of another guy and yelling "hut!"

"Before Super Bowl XIII, a Steelers-Cowboys rematch, Cowboys linebacker Thomas "Hollywood" Henderson famously ridiculed Bradshaw by saying, "He couldn't spell 'cat' if you spotted him the 'c' and the 't'." But alas, you Dallas guys lost........... again. LOL"
Ahhh the irony.
Has anyone met Hollywood Henderson? OMG ... you would be hard pressed to meet a less educated person. I just kept thinking: annunciation, past tense/present tense, single/plural form, his lips haven't touched during the past 30 minute conversation, etc, etc.
WOW!

The funny part is that Porter and Winslow are cut from the same cloth. A couple of loudmouths who talk better than they play.

Winslow is a
tight end Now that will bring out the gay crowd.
Spent sometime on the old football field, and I can tell you that really was a mild statement.

He may start out as a "tight end", but if he is gay, he'll probably end up a "wide receiver."

A couple of loudmouths who talk better than they play. Errr. Porter's been to the Pro Bowl twice if I recall correctly. The only way Winslow's getting to that game is to buy a ticket.

Tiki has taken his place on FoxNews in the morning on a number of occasions. I've watched him. He is so darn great at that, he's better than the regulars. You are right here, he WILL BE in the media if he wants to. He is SUPERB!
I guess its too much to expect other athletes to conduct themselves on camera like he did.
Keep guessing.
