From today's WH Press Briefing (emph. added):
DAVID GREGORY QUESTION: From a security point of view, does the president believe that it is the primary role of the U.S. military to be responsible for reducing the sectarian violence?
And if that's the case, or if it's not the case, how does that inform his decision about what the U.S. troop posture should be: heavier on combat than on training?
TONY SNOW: OK, before I get to that, I want to address something else. Because you and I had a conversation last week that got a whole lot of play in a lot of places, where I used the term "partisan" in describing one of your questions.
And I've thought a lot about that, and that I was wrong. So I want to apologize and tell you I'm sorry for it.
DAVID GREGORY: Thank you.
TONY SNOW: And the reason I do that is not only because it's the right thing, but because I want people in this room and also people who watch these to understand that the relations in this room are professional and collegial.
And if I expect you to do right by us, you have every right to expect that I'll do right by you.
So, at any event, I just want to say I'm sorry for that.

Mr. Snow may have set his expectations too high.
Apology relates to:

I think the Clintonian apology non-apology "I'm sorry that you're a biased, liberal, moron" would have been more appropriate.
I'm not sure why you are apologizing for telling the truth. Only the press themselves think they are professional.
Tony Snow is a Freeper?!?! Where does he get the time?...
I do not believe Tony does not think David Gregory is not a partisan. He is just saying this to lower the temperature in the Press Room. It may be the right move to keep the attention on the material Tony put forward and not a personality and ideological conflict.
In the 18th or early 19th century this episode could have had a happy ending. Gregory would have challenged Snow to a duel. One of them would have won.
That is class! (And, BTW, I don't think David Gregory has class.)
Tony even freeped with us during his radio show, as did his radio producer. It was a lot of fun, and very enjoyable.
Tony stopped Freeping when he got his new gig.
He is a wonderful man, just like our President.
Tony was a FReeper when he had his radio show...
I agree; I think Tony is putting Gregory on the spot.
Not anymore. I think he had to suspend his account when he took the new job. But maybe I am mistaken.
Tony Snow is the coolest! Now that Rummy is gone, He is the best that is left in the Whitehouse.
I watched the presser. Tony was all class. He was right when he said Gregory was partisan. We all know that. But Tony has a responsibility that he takes seriously, which Gregory does not.
Question: If you had to duel and could choose any type of pistol (it would only have one cartridge, of course), which would you choose?
I wonder what was really behind this.
Tony's job was never in jepordy, perhaps he did this to save Gregory's job.
I hope he does not make it a habit to do this every time some diva gets his undergarments in a bind.
