Last, I have it on good authority that there is a wonderful group of individuals preparing to back Cong. Hunter when he decides to run!

I think we have to start a "Draft Hunter" caucus here on FR....

"Congressmen, however, with no name recognition and no executive experience do not get elected to the job.
Too bad. Aint gonna happen."

With a defeatist attitude like this, nothing positive is going to happen. BTW, I do remember a Senator, by the name of Kennedy, who I believe did become President.
If you just want to wring your hands at your impotence, fine. Some of us are willing to fight, even against the odds and the wishes of the MSM, to have our Country lead by a principled conservative. If you're scared of a fight, than get out of the way.

Bears repeating!! That Lincoln guy was a former congressman also.

Finally, at long last, a REAL Republican with a brain who we can vote for! He will not get the seal of approval of the OBL, that's for sure. I would work for his campaign and support it financially, something I haven't done for a candidate in years.

Yes,ma'am!

A really good and decent guy, who most likely could do a fine job as POTUS.

Certainly sounds like it.

Congressmen, however, with no name recognition and no executive experience do not get elected to the job.

If that's the best knock his enemies have on him, he'll win in a landslide.

I checked Wikipedia for other knocks on him, and there's what appears to be a totally trumped up tax scandal on his "estate" and an attempt to tie him to Abrahmoff. Even with these, he defeated his Democrat opponent by 33% in a year when Republicans went down everywhere.

I really, really like this guy...

"If that's the best knock his enemies have on him, he'll win in a landslide."

He will also be criticized for being against NAFTA and CAFTA and bending over to the Chinese. These are populist positions that could garner some serious support from conservative Democrats and Lou Dobb's type Democrats and Republicans.
I don't have a problem with these positions as "free trade" has definitely not worked out as fair trade, at least not fair to the U.S. This would, however, lose him some support from the NEOCONS.

Well if Rudy decides not to run I might lean closely to Duncan Hunter.

That's kind of like saying, "If the bartender doesn't have any warm buttermilk, I'll have a glass of straight-up Bourbon on the rocks."

Yeah. me too.
Maybe he would be a better candidate for VPOTUS, supporting a candidate (I don't know who) who has a stronger electability factor.
It's NOT just me and you. There a bunch of folks in a bunch of states that NEVER heard of him and could care less about him cause he is not "pretty" or presidential looking. Not a Central casting type for POTUS.

Be real.
JFK had a lot of money, and an unscrupulous father with connections with the Mob. Stolen chicago brought the e,ection into his hands.

With Hunter you have the anthesis of JFK.
Honest.
Decent.
Not a skirt chaser.
Good military record
No mob connections and not willing to sell out anyone, anytime for anything.

I am not defeatist. Just savvy about what can be and what cannot be.

Has a congressman in the 20th century ever won a presidential election?

James Garfield was the only person ever elected President directly from the House of Representatives, back in 1881.

"There a bunch of folks in a bunch of states that NEVER heard of him and could care less about him cause he is not "pretty" or presidential looking. Not a Central casting type for POTUS."

Nixon, Ford, Carter, and Reagan were certainly not "pretty" nor really "central casting types" for POTUS.
It's time we got off this "yea but here's a reason against it" type of thinking and instead focus on the goal, a principled conservative President, and started working towards that goal. Worrying about why things won't work gets us nowhere.

Yea, the "savvy" people, including Rove and the RNC, who told us they had to support liberals, like Chafee, instead of putting their support behind conservatives, are what got us the last election results. No thanks!

I am not defeatist. Just savvy about what can be and what cannot be.

Disqualifying a well qualified guy because he's not a slime bag (like JFK) or because he lacks some media-defined pedigree or requirements (CAN'T be from the House) is pretty defeatist if you ask me.

When people find out what Hunter stands for, they WILL get excited. The base of the GOP is dying for a candidate like this...

We sure "savvied" ourselves into the minority in Congress, didn't we?

LOL. I really cannot fathom the Rudy fans at all. I think they're the politics/party over principals people. They have some unbelievably misinformed idea that Rudy can win a national election and are on the bandwagon for no other reason than that--the fact that Rudy's a liberal be damned.
