Hunter, 2008 presidential hopeful, finds support from Milliken

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Trade agreements with China and other nations put the United States at a disadvantage, said Republican presidential candidate Duncan Hunter, who found textile magnate Roger Milliken among his supporters during a visit here.
Hunter, a congressman from California, visited Sunday to gauge support for a 2008 presidential bid. Milliken, a textile executive, said he was a "longtime supporter" of Hunter, who wants to protecting manufacturing in the United States.
"As head of the Armed Services Committee, he's seen the terrible damage that's been done to the military of the United States because we've lost our manufacturing base," Milliken said. "A lot of the products that go into our military weaponry, we're now dependent on foreigners to make. And that's not a good situation to be in."
China subsidizes manufacturers of products that are exported to the United States to the point where they generally operate tax free, and then charges this country to import those goods, Hunter said. Similar scenarios happen with more than 100 other countries, Hunter said.
"Textiles were merely the canary in the mine," Milliken said. "We were just the first industry to be hit."
Hunter also spoke highly of Milliken.
"People who are keeping manufacturing in the United States, in my estimation, are true heroes," he said. "And as it gets tougher and tougher, they get more heroic."
Hunter is the best we've seen! I'm with you. We need a "Hunter" ping list.
I'm voting for him in the primaries. The problem is that he needs cash fast.

Humvee tire shortage prompting call for ending strike

The Topeka Goodyear plant is the only Goodyear facility producing Humvee tires.
Now the Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee is calling for a deal to get striking workers back on the job.
"We've got to get those workers back to the plant or we're going to be in a situation where we literally are short of Humvee tires," says Rep. Duncan Hunter, Republican from California. "And this Humvee, this light utility vehicle, is the backbone of transportation for the United States Army. The Army fights on wheels, and this is a big part of those wheels that the US Army fights on."
Congressman Duncan Hunter says production is down about 35 percent, creating a shortage of tires for the military's workhorse vehicle in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Dems are screeching about a Draft; Duncan should propose an Iraqi draft. The little old ladies from Miami will vote for Duncan because he will not put their granddaughters on the front lines; Hillary will. That's a least a couple of hundred thousand votes. Congressman says Army going slow on repairs

CAPITOL HILL The outgoing chairman of the House Armed Services Committee says the Army has what he calls "a case of the slows."
Congressman Duncan Hunter says the Army is dragging its feet when it comes to repairing trucks, tanks, and other equipment used in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere.
He says the 17 (b) billion dollars in additional money the Army asked for was approved two months ago, but less than a-quarter of it has been spent.
Hunter told reporters he's sent the secretary of the Army a letter essentially saying, "You got the extra money you asked for, now spend it."

A really good and decent guy, who most likely could do a fine job as POTUS.
Congressmen, however, with no name recognition and no executive experience do not get elected to the job. It is a shame really, because he would be good for the nation. paired with Mike Steel there would be a solid conservative and personally responsible duo who actually perform well in the position. Too bad.
Aint gonna happen.
He will not get the seal of approval of the OBL, that's for sure. I would work for his campaign and support it financially, something I haven't done for a candidate in years.
