A LONG-awaited report into the death of Princess Diana in a Paris car crash due out today is expected to refute theories of a plot by British intelligence targeting her and confirm a French probe that said it was an accident.
The report by Lord John Stevens, the former commissioner of London's Metropolitan Police, has concluded that Diana died in a traffic accident after her driver lost control of the car, British newspapers said today.
Fleeing paparazzi photographers, Diana, 36, her boyfriend Dodi Fayed, 42, and their chauffeur Henri Paul, 41, were killed in a car crash in a Paris underpass in the early hours of August 31, 1997.
Bodyguard Trevor Rees-Jones survived.
A two-year investigation in France blamed Paul for losing control of the black Mercedes because he was driving too fast while high on drink and prescription drugs.
According to The Times, Lord Stevens and his team believe that had Diana, Fayed and Paul worn their seatbelts, as Rees-Jones did, they could have survived.
Princes William and Harry had been briefed on the conclusions of the probe into the death of their mother, British news media reported.

An accident? Conspiracy is much better for business...
Diana dead?
Yeah. I'm surprised no-one mentioned it...
The chauffeur was drunk, seat belts were not worn and the French medical team took an hour to respond.
IDIOTS!!!!
You spineless spaniards might as well kneel down now and let the Muslims behead you your sorry heads.
You people disgust me.
Stupid bastards.
(sorry, I was responding to a different post, my bad)
Merry Christmas to all.
Your Chauffer is supposed to be the designated driver.
Not just another drunk.
I am so sick of hearing about this woman - 10 years after her death. Heck, I was sick of her even when she was alive!
You REALLY should have suggested that to them...
Thanks but I'll wait for the definitive forty-second report, 15 years from now.
May she rest in peace.
Having said that, why, again, am I supposed to care about this???
Here's the thing....
Diana was a bit dumb. Charles was in love with Camilla when he married her. Hey, Charles needed heirs and Camilla couldn't give them for whatever reason. Charles even CALLED Camilla on his wedding day to Diana!
Diana knew what the scoop was. She even complained that she was used as a "brood mare". Well, duh.
So she gets involved with that dopey Dodi guy, who was a less than scholarly son of the owner of Harrods in London, a Muslim, by the way.
And Dodi's father has been, since Di's death, doing everything and using every influence he had, to cast aspersions on his son and Di's death. He's said that Dodi planned to marry Diana. Sheesh. Even dopey Diana would never marry that retard. She just wanted the paparazzi to chase her all the hell over the place, to bother Charles and the royal family.
Muslims live die and breathe on lies and propaganda. So too does Dodi's father as he tries to create a different reality than the one we all know and live.
Get into a car, speed at over 90 miles per hour in a tunnel filled with nasty posts and columns, have a drunk driver at the wheel and be sure to not have seatbelts.
Out here in la-la land, where us boobs live and function, this is a recipe for sure death.
But then we have common sense, us idiots. The elites do not live by common sense. They think they are above it.
I am reminded of John Kennedy, who thought with one or two flying lessons that he could fly through haze and fog. Or how about that Kennedy who got split in half by a tree in the way of his football game on the ski slopes?
Diana was an empty-headed female who did pretty much nothing in her life, despite all the adulation.
WHO CARES!!!!!!!!!
lol. . .but have to say am REALLY tired of Dodi Fayed's constant baying to the contrary here.
Am waiting for someone to ask BillyBoy however; just what he learned from his spying on Diana. . .and was he sitting in the Oval Office while doing it. . .
I've got one question: Why did the Brits wait so long to hold their own inquest?
It took them 3 years to find out that the driver was drunk?! This was discovered the second day after the incident. It took them 3 years to make up their minds about how much to tell the public of what actually happened.Which was nothing.
I find it amusing that everybody always assumes that the Euro-weenies are ever so much more environmental, enlightened and safety conscious than us Neanderthal cowboys in the USA.
But if you look at that tunnel, it was a death trap. Any US freshman Civil Engineering student would have been flunked on the spot if he had turned in a project that had a configuration like that. Those posts would have been guarded by rails in any project in the United States. With proper guarding, the car would have been deflected back into the travel lane, and nobody would have died. It may have felt like a game of human Pachinco while the car slowed down, but nobody would have died.
Instead, the marvelously enlightened Froggies had unguarded concrete posts at the edge of the high-speed travel lane. The car hit one of those, and the rest is history. There has not been a configuration like this built in the United States in sixty years, and those old ones have long since been retrofitted. Drive down any US highway and look for things you could hit head-on. You won't find any.
P.S. Seatbelts save lives. They should be worn whenever a car is in motion, because dying without one on is just damn stupid.
You know, you're right.
I used to live in Baltimore and life required traversing the Chesapeake Bay in all manner of methods.
For many years I drove through Baltimore's Harbor Tunnel and I don't recall ever seeing a post or huge pillar one.
In fact, when I first saw a pic of that tunnel in France, how those huge pillars were right next to the vehicles and so damn easy to hit...well I was surprised.
But you're right as rain. I've travelled up and down this east coast and I've never seen anything like that tunnel was configured.
