That's true but Enron was in bed with the Clinton Administration too. Plus, they were to far gone to
pull out of the fire (filed bankruptcy in 2001).
I've got this sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach BUT
the good news is so many are aware now of what is going on. Don't Give Up!
Sometimes I just have to get away from it. Just pace yourself, it's going to be a long road.
Well, maybe you're right.
Love the catapult! You could make a fortune selling those in border towns! Of course...it's not politically correct...but could be effective!
I wonder how many are OTM's.
It isn't obvious at all that Swift "looked the other way." This problem has been building for 40 years. It is like Iraq, it is going to take pressure, pressure, pressure before things get better.
Homeland Security said that there was an ID theft ring involved. Run the SSN of a potential employee and it comes back good because it is good--it belongs to someone who had an electronic medical record on a stolen laptop.
""... sure made an example of Enron"
Funny you should mention Enron. Swift is owned by a company that has extensive interest in (among other things) energy.
If the feds were serious about this, raids would be conducted so often that they would no longer be front page news. Targets would be the largest employers of illegals in food processing, construction and other industries. Fines would be just this side of extreme and executive imprisonments would be lengthy and commonplace.
In sum, we would eventually get our country back but at the price of short- to intermediate-range economic downturn and loss of investor confidence. It would take statesmen to make such a choice and unfortuntely we don't have any, just short-sighted, main chance politicians.
Solutions to all this will have to come from "we, the people," not government."
I was thinking of Enron because Jeff Skilling began his 24-year sentence here in MN today. I also noticed that a few of the members of Swift's board have a background in energy-related companies.
You are right on all points. If they started prosecuting those in executive positions of these companies, the hiring of illegals would stop, not by those construction companies that have few employees but the corporations would stop hiring them.
See my post #76.
"the arrested workers from Mexico, Guatemala, and countries as far away as Laos and Sudan were being held at federal and state detention centers around the country."

You can bet that there were at least 1 Pakistani and 1 Somali. This is not about just Mexicans. This is about a slow federal response to all immigration issues beginning on September 12, 2001.
How does CEO Rovit Reconcile these two statements?:
[Immigration officials last month informed Swift that it would remove unauthorized workers on Dec. 4, but Swift asked a federal judge to prevent agents from conducting the raid, arguing it would cause "substantial and irreparable injury" to its business.
The company estimated a raid would remove up to 40 percent of its 13,000 workers.]
and:
[In a written statement, President and CEO Sam Rovit said the company has never knowingly hired illegal workers and does not condone the practice. ]
So which is it?
The company knew 40% of its workforce would be removed and yet they have "never knowingly hired illegal workers".
The notice was given on December 4. The illegal workers were still employed when the company was finally raided on December 12.
I smell Bovine Fecal Material - and it ain't coming from the cows.
Sam Rovit should be wearing an orange jumpsuit.
That makes sense, that was a huge hit for any business.
And Merry X-mas to you.
And a very Merry Christmas to you, ACG!
Yes, I noticed your excellent post 76
Put up tent camps with guards!
