WASHINGTON - Democrats taking control of Congress next month say they will try to ban for the remainder of fiscal 2007 the special-interest "pork" projects that got Republicans in so much trouble with voters in the November elections.
"We will place a moratorium on all earmarks until a reformed process is put in place," the incoming Democratic chairmen of the Senate and House appropriations panels, Sen. Robert Byrd (news, bio, voting record) of West Virginia and Rep. David Obey (news, bio, voting record) of Wisconsin, said late on Monday.
The recent proliferation of billions of dollars worth of special-interest projects being attached to annual spending bills likely contributed to Republicans losing majority control of Congress in November elections.

Further down in the article, if you choose to read that far, you come to the real punch line: "Obey and Byrd said that when the new Congress convenes, they will push for passage of one gigantic bill to take care of this year's federal funding."
What are the synonyms for pork? We all know they're just going to call it something different.
Wonder how much cash Sheets Byrd got from his fellow Klansmen?
They are talking about my right to free speech. They can kiss my arse where the sun don't shine.
Here's a recommended duration for the "timeout" - FOREVER!!!!
As a first step in the reform process, Senator Byrd will propose a bill to fund the Senator Robert Byrd Center For The Study Of Ways To Cut Down On Pork, to be based in downtown Wheeling. The Center's physical plant should cost no more than $100 million, tops, so it's a bargain.
Translation: we will suspend this egregious practice for just as long as it takes to find a way to pull the wool over the voters' eyes which allows earmarks without appearing to do so.
Actually, I think they already figured this out with the help of Ted Stevens and his "bridge to nowhere." They identify among themselves the "projects" they want to recive their largesse. The money is added to the budget and allocated to a particular state. Once the money is allocated to the state, the state directs it to the pet project. The money for Sen. Stevens bridge was allocated to Alaska. It WILL be spent on the bridge. Watch this sleight of hand. This is what is going on.
For many people Republican Pork tastes much better than Democratic Pork.
As for me, I prefer No Pork, for Nobody.
This is just a ploy to make voters think that the Democrats are going to reform the pork, but then they'll claim that they couldn't get enough support to really reform it.
Actually, it was Representative Don Young from Alaska who wanted that infamous bridge. No matter, sadly, they were both RINO Republicans.
I'm afraid you're all wrong ,, this is the RATS simply raising the stakes ,, they letting it be known that they won't sell out as cheap as our boys did to "K" street...
The undisputed King of Pork to push a ban on pork...
This has to be a joke.
Byrd against Pork.
ROTFLMAO!!!
